Batman left the League on Earth the rescue Superman who was abducted by Parademons after getting a good dose of Omega rays from Darkseid. Flash and Green Lantern team up with Cyborg to slow down Darkseid.
This issue continues the trend with the gang all trying to make sure Darkseid never kills another innocent civilian.
Wonder Woman and Aquaman take offense by taking out both of Darkseid's eyes.
It's kinda brutal to see her do this but hey, what do I know right, I'm fairly new when it comes to Wonder Woman lore. The smile on her face plus the "HA!" is really interesting though it really seemed like she's enjoying what she just did.
Aquaman also plunges that bad-ass trident of his on Darkseid's other socket...
Really loving the new characterization for Arthur Curry in the New 52 universe. Plus - what the heck is The Flash doing? Is Lee just putting him there without any sense of motion? Is he trying to trip Darkseid?
Batman pulling another "Die-Hard" stunt is also another great part for this book; what he sees though is something really unpleasant...
Cyborg activates all the functioning mother boxes which opens boom tubes everywhere and sucks these two creepers into oblivion. With the threat eliminated, Batman rescues Superman...
This is apparently the first mention of a multiverse for the DC New 52 Universe. It's also pretty interesting since the cover for Earth 2 featured Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman battling Parademons. Could it be that Darkseid has been invading the 52 earths in order to find his daughter?
So anyway, Bats and Supes manages to leave Apokolips just in time for Superman to "layeth the smacketh down" on Darkseid.
Darky doesn't go down without a fight and bear hugs Clark Kent
Bats coins the idea of pushing 'Seid into his boomtube and pull out Superman in the process. To do this he convinces Cyborg to overload the boomtube.
Once the main baddie dissolves, its the customary happy scene and the heroes are given the recognition that they would in the White House no less. A few pages later, Barry Allen christens this new team as...
Yeaahhhhhh... uh... wait... Super Seven?! Might as well call your group the Super Friends. Do note that the poses that Superman and Batman have been reversed. It's usually Batman whose got his arms folded while Superman places his hands on his waist as if acting like a shield.
As for the name, they officially get the name from a book that was done by one of the people that Hal Jordan rescued during the opening parts of the book.
Love the reference to the first true villain that the Justice League fought during the Silver Age which was Starro the Conqueror.
Aaaannd just like an action movie with a good teaser ending, the actual "super villains" are starting to rear their ugly heads.
I think the one with the cane is Ras Al Ghul who is set to make an appearance in this summer's The Dark Knight Rises.
