More images after the cut.
Before showing the new images, let me just say that this cover totally made me realize that I made the right choice of getting an Xbox 360 rather than buying a Playstation 3.
Just saying.
Anyway, lets move on to the topic at hand. The new concept images for Assassin's Creed 3.
This is new, an Assassin brandishing a flintlock rifle. Since the hidden blade is absent in this series, we don't have access to the matchlock upgrade. What we do have is the ability to carry a rifle during, what I assume are, missions.
And it's not just rifles that players can use in ACIII as we can see, Connor can even kill using the traditional bow and arrow:
The original 'shopped images hinting this time area for the game showed Ezio and Altair posing together with important military and political figures during America's war with the British. It was pretty clear that we'd also see George Washington so it wasn't too far to see both Connor and Washington riding together.
We also get a quick look at a younger Connor who is half British and half Native American. This scene shows him getting some flack from what seems to be a British soldier/ officer.
And yes I definitely do see a resemblance between him and Red Dead Redemption lead John Marston.
Could it be that the story progresses similar to how Ezio's story was told in Assassin's Creed II? Wherein we get to see him during his younger years until he grows up and becomes a bad-ass assassin? I hope they follow that formula. Oh wait, if they do decide to follow that, please Ubisoft, no more additional stories (ala Brotherhood and Revelations).
The new set features Connor in action and wearing the traditional attire for assassins; we also see him doing what he does best which is kicking ass and taking names.
Free running is also back and this time, aside from being able to free run on rooftops, players can apparently free run in forests which if you think about, can be tricky and challenging.
Cities are also a big part of the game. For the third game, major cities and communities which will be the setting for the story include New York and Boston.
The biggest hook for me is the fact that its not just confined to cities as ranges and valleys are also fair game for this new character...
... as well as battlefields...
Finally, we get to ride around town on a horse..
