Just Read: Empowered volume 5

I just finished Empowered volume 5 and I must say despite all the ecchi elements and the bondage-ishness of the book, its got some solid heart. Here's a short "review" for this book.

Empowered 5-cover

Yes, there's humor and a lot of sex in this book and bits of nudity here and there but honestly, peel all those away and you get a great underdog story. Well, that and the fact that said underdog keeps getting tied up in really kinky ways and then gets her "super suit" get ripped apart with every encounter.

So anyway in this volume we get to see the development of other characters including the reveal that Spooky Sistah and Mindfuck were once upon a time a couple.

And then the "Super Homeys" had to deal with both a massive inquest over the chaos that occured during the last volume as well as the threat of Willy Pete, a fire based villain who likes to f*ck skulls (I kid you not).

In between stories there are smaller ones tackling various subplots for Emp's friends and lover. This issue featured a really sexy almost ecchi-esque story about Emp and her boyfriend Thugboy's ummm... horizontal mambo as well as some bits of backstory and character development for Ninjette.

But the final storyarc for this volume was definitely the biggest scene stealer. In it, Emp and Mindfuck tries to escape from the fiery spacestation. Emp does the right thing and lets Mindfuck escape. But she is later telepathically manipulated to take the portal away from the burning wreckage.

Emp teleports to her team mates (who belittle her still) and warn them about the disaster. Sistah Spooky tries to save her former lover but is "three seconds too late"... When she returns she confronts Empowered and blames her for her girlfriend's death...

Y'know I really wanted to show and spoil everything but I have to say, you really should get the full volumes. My mistake here was that I read the fifth volume rather than start out with volume one. Hopefully I get to encounter the other five volumes and read them all in one go. It's kinda cute after all.
