Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuiness give a classic throwback to their earliest collaboration in Superman by inserting a Superman reference in Marvel's POINT ONE book particularly in the Nova story entitled "Diamondhead".
Here's the page in question...
We see the new Nova (Sam Alexander) spazzing out over the idea of becoming an Avenger after he gets the offer from Thor (see AvX # 12 for details). He zips across the United States and flies to a very familiar place in Kansas...
Yes, that apparently is Littleton, Kansas (which is obviously a play at Smallville). You'll also notice a farmer that's built like a truck together with an elderly man whom the former calls "Pa".
While we're on the subject of Nova, you'll be glad(?) to know that the new hero to take up the mantle will be chronicled by the Superman and Hulk team of Loeb and McGuiness.
Point One did not give us any specifics on how Sam came to be the new Nova. I guess we all have to wait for that. One thing though, given that both Thanos and Starlord (Peter Quill) are appearing once again after the supposed 'death' of the former in "Thanos Imperative", will there be any chance for the original Earth Nova aka Nova Prime Richard Rider?
Also based on these unfinished pages, it seems like this rookie Nova would first encounter Rocket Raccoon which is all fine and dandy considering that Marvel is starting to build awareness and consumer recognition for each and every member of 'Guardians of the Galaxy'.
