Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 Review

Ayala Malls brings us "Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn 2" starring Kristen Stewart, Rob Pattinson, Taylor Lautner and many more.

Now that we're on the last leg of the Twilight saga, I had really high hopes for a live action adaptation of a romance novel featuring sparkling vampires and werewolves who love to wear denim shorts. Truth be told, I was already going to go for 'sold' with this last movie but there were a couple of things that made me frown.

In this film Bella deals with being a vampire, being a mother to her daughter Reneesme and facing down the Vulturi who threaten to kill her child for being an "immortal child".

The Good:

- The good bits in the film were the fight scenes between the Cullens and the Vulturi forces. For some unknown reason, those parts had me hooked because its got all the fantasy/horror elements that I like from those Japanese RPGs blended into an actual movie. The vampires hit hard and fast and werewolves were just plain brutal. I actually found myself cheering for those cute lil wolfies when they chomped the heads of those vampires.

- The humor and the quips were present and its pretty obvious that they kicked it up a notch in this one. The film also features one of the weirdest (albeit humorous) moments in the entire franchise involving Bella's dad and Jacob Black (played by Taylor Lautner).

- It's not really my cup of tea but the producer Stephanie Meyer definitely did a huge fanservice for all the female Twilight fans in this one. From Lautner stripping down and showing us guys how weak and pathetic we are to Pattinson having this dreamy eyed lover boy look, the women will swoon in Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn part 2.

- The parts where the Cullens were gathering allies to help them against the Volturi was also interesting, there's a lot of interesting characters that we get to meet including Joe Anderson's Alistair and Lee Pace's Garrett.

- The themes of everlasting love together and family is a nice touch to the film although in this outing its more of the latter.

- There's less cuddling between Bella and Edward which is a good thing in my opinion.

The Bad

- The whole fight scene although great looking would go down in history as the biggest sham. Yes that nice looking action scene between the Cullens and the Volturi turns out to be nothing more than Aro's glimpse into the future should he decide to go down this path.

- There were some dialogues that were just horribly scripted. It was uninteresting and doesn't move the plot too much. Believe me, even at lowered levels, some of the key moments from the film suffered from this either coming from the Cullens or their allies or sometimes from Bella and her POV remarks.

- The flick has racy bits. It's tamed down but you kinda wanna cringe knowing that there are pre-pubescent girls watching somewhere in the audience.

Verdict

Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn part 2 is an OK movie. Bring lots of popcorn and be sure to be ready a nice time. It's got a lot of flaws and plotholes as well as some great things worth mentioning. Definitely a movie for chicks and teenagers. If you're going to look for an Oscar winning performance here, don't be surprised because its not; what you can do though is enjoy the movie and if you're a Twilight hater, relish the fact that this is the last we'll ever see of Bella Swan and company.
