Daredevil # 26 Review [Spoiler Heavy]

Somebody important in Matt Murdock's past has come back with the sole purpose of tormenting him and now in Daredevil # 26 we finally find out who that person is.

Okay so, I lost track of Daredevil for around six issues now. For some unknown reason I just lost interest. So imagine my surprise when I read this issue.

Standard to all of Mark Waid's stuff, the dialogue for # 26 is impeccable. One moment Matt Murdock's frantically scrambling to get his act together and then the next he's rambling incoherently at the bedside of his bestfriend Foggy Nelson.

Another great thing about Waid's run is that he's never ashamed of doing some heavy stuff with or for the character. What got me hooked in this issue alone was the catchup page where we see this:

Waid and artist Chris Samnee has also made it very possible to actually cheer for the chief mastermind behind Matt's woes. Should I spoil it? Sure go ahead. So yes, the bad guy behind this is Bullseye. Though it took 25 issues before we actually get to say that villain's name, Waid still leads on with a sort-of wild goose chase and a rather intriguing exposition.

First we see the guy as an unnamed, mastermind type...

Of course at this point, hints were already given such as the eye that resembles a target... and then when another segment is appropriated for the big reveal...

Not only is the revelation engaging, it's also the case of the absentee villain. It plays out more like a detective story rather than a traditional Daredevil story arc. Plus we get to revisit Shadowland albeit in just one panel.

Ikari and Lady Bullseye is also an added treat her. Too bad for the latter though she gets beaten up by Daredevil...

Structurally speaking, while the reveal was done in the middle, Waid still managed to make Bullseye's re-emergence a good cliffhanger for the issue.

Samnee's art is also gorgeous. I had my apprehensions about him becoming the new artist for Daredevil, but after checking this issue, I might have to hunt down the past issues post- Omega effect.

Verdict: 10/10
