The other Justice League book for the New 52 really shows a lot of promise. Heck this issue alone features a lot of cameos and appearances including classic characters like Dr. Occult and much, much more.
I loved this panel particularly because it shows the multiple characters that gets showcased in this book. We've got Steve Trevor barking orders at this team, Connie saying "go fuck yourself" and then Zee, Orchid and Deadman watching. You got to love dysfunction in these types of teams.
Meanwhile, wayward member Madame Xanadu is seen talking to a slightly older Tim Hunter...
What happened to the Harry Potter look? He traded that classic look for a more modern look. Yeesh. Oh and he as no magic anymore because he "exorcised" his magic abilities. This also means that he cannot lead the team to the whereabouts of the "Books of Magic"...
It's also revealed in this issue that Dr. Mist is working together with Felix Faust and that they are working with a mysterious third man who also has deep connections and ties to Constantine.
Oh and Nanda Parbat gets mentioned. The old home and stomping grounds of both The Phantom Stranger and The Question (who may or may not be the ancient trinity involved in "Trinity War").
While traveling to Slaughter Swamp, Orchid and Constantine talk about the shared history between Zee and Connie and how he was feels responsible for the death of Zatara.
In Peru, Deadman and Zatanna encounter a classic villain Blackbriar Thorn (co-created by Joe Kubert, rest in peace).
Orchid and John Constantine on the other hand encounters Black Boris
Finally, the mystery man who wants to take out Zatanna and Constantine begins his bid to take the House of Secrets; the twin house of Constantine's House of Mystery. Before claiming the said home, our mystery villain encounters the house's owner, Dr. Occult.
... who also gets killed at the end...
Really wicked book. Masterfully done by Jeff Lemire.
