What to Prepare When Anticipating a Flash Flood

These monsoon rains are a pain in the Filipino's collective butts.

If you're like me and striking out on your own, here are some of the things that you really should prepare for when you are anticipating a flash flood in your area.


1. Canned Goods

It's pretty important to prepare canned goods in your emergency loot bag. It doesn't matter what the brand is as long as you have something to eat. Sardines and canned goods are some essentials IMHO.

2. Flashlights

You never can tell when MERALCO would cut the power in your area. It would really be a good idea to be prepared with two or more flashlights in your loot bag. If possible you can also go and get one of those really nice "rechargeable" lights to brighten your already dark evenings.

3. Blankets and dry clothes

No I'm not talking about Blankets by Craig Thompson but rather real blankets....

Blankets are nice and warm. Something that's really needed for these cold and dismal days.

4. Transistors and Radios

It's important to go old school in these critical times. You can't depend on your iPhones because admit it, they plunk out rather easily. You can't rely too much on Facebook or Twitter because you'll need either 3G or Wi-Fi connection to connect to the Internet. This is where radios come in. No need for chargers, all you have to get are those big-ass batteries and viola, instant connection to the media.

5. Well-Charged Mobile

It's really important to have an open line of communication during these times. You never can tell when you'll need to call your loved ones. A well-charged mobile phone can also save the your life and the life of your loved ones as you can call the emergency headlines.
