Earth Hour, Spider-Man Join Forces to Save the Planet

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 13TH, 2014: In a first of its kind partnership, Spider-Man will be the first Super Hero ambassador for Earth Hour, the global movement organized by WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature), with a message to inspire individuals to use their power to become Super Heroes for the planet.

Andy Ridley, CEO and Co-Founder of Earth Hour, and Jeff Blake, Chairman, Worldwide Marketing and Distribution, Sony Pictures Entertainment, made the announcement in conjunction with the launch of Earth Hour Blue – a radical new digital crowdfunding and crowdsourcing platform for the planet, launched to engage people around the world and participants in the famous lights out event, which this year will be held on Saturday March 29, at 8:30pm.

This year, Earth Hour and the hero of the highly anticipated motion picture The Amazing Spider-Man 2 – along with the film’s stars, Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx and director Marc Webb – are throwing their support behind Earth Hour Blue, which aims to harness the power of the crowd to raise funds for on-the-ground environmental projects from across the world.

“I’m proud Spider-Man is the first Super Hero ambassador for Earth Hour because he shows we can all be Super Heroes when we realize the power we all have,” says Andrew Garfield, who plays Spider-Man in the upcoming film. “Earth Hour is a movement that has created massive impact around the world, so imagine what we can do this year with Spider-Man by our side.”

The crowdfunding section of the new platform will allow participants to help deliver energy efficient stoves to families in Madagascar, help communities in the Philippines build fiberglass boats to withstand climate impacts like Typhoon Haiyan and raise funds to expand and conserve the iconic Table Mountain National Park in South Africa, with many more projects to come.

“Earth Hour gives you the power to inspire anyone, even if you’re just one person, and Earth Hour is much more than an hour. There are great projects from the crowd, for the planet, happening all over the world,” said Emma Stone.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 director Marc Webb is the first celebrity ambassador to announce the Earth Hour Blue project he is backing, which aims to provide better equipment for WWF Rangers protecting Indonesia’s endangered wildlife such as the Sumatran Tiger, Elephant, Rhino and Orangutan and their forest habitat.

“Earth Hour is a movement full of Super Heroes – people harnessing the power of the crowd to inspire change for the good of the planet, imagine the possibilities when we come together and do more,” said Marc Webb.

Earth Hour has grown to involve hundreds of millions of people from all walks of life across 7000 cities and towns and 154 countries and territories. Jamie Foxx who plays the villain Electro in the film said, “Earth Hour isn’t just about lights off; it’s about people across the world coming together throughout the year to join forces to improve the planet. Never underestimate your power, never underestimate what you can do.”

Individuals can also use Earth Hour’s crowdsourcing platform for Earth Hour Blue, which will call for people to add their voice to some of the biggest environmental campaigns across the world; including an Instagram campaign for people to share their love of Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, as part of WWF-Australia’s “Lights Out For The Reef” theme for Earth Hour 2014.

Global participants in the movement will also be able to sign the Shark Saver’s “I’m FINished With FINS” pledge, which engages celebrities and public figures throughout Asia to help end shark finning in marine waters for the consumption of shark-fin soup.

“The idea of Earth Hour has grown beyond anything we could have dreamed. This year with the help of Spider-Man by our side, we are taking the movement to the next stage. We hope that Spider-Man will empower individuals to be Super Heroes for the planet, and use their voice or their dollar to support projects or campaigns around the world. It’s about harnessing the power of the crowd. That’s what Earth Hour Blue is all about,” said Ridley.

Sony Pictures Entertainment will join by contributing to a WWF-China and Earth Hour Blue project that provides efficient cookstoves to prevent deforestation in the habitat of the Giant Panda. Through its efforts, the studio will receive Gold Standard carbon offsets that render the entire physical production of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 as well as its publicity tour, carbon-neutral.

Expanding on many sustainability efforts over the years, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 became the most eco-friendly tentpole production in the history of Columbia Pictures. These environmental efforts, on set and off, were supported at every level – from producers, studio executives, and cast and crew and began as soon as the film went into pre-production.

Spider-Man’s always been a very relatable Super Hero. Peter Parker is a hero to all people, and an inspiration, so it seems very fitting that he should join forces with Earth Hour to empower every single individual to help save the planet,” Blake added. “I’m also very proud of the fact that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is entirely carbon-neutral. We made a commitment to be as eco-conscious as possible during production itself, when we took a special effort to think green and avoid waste; now, completing that process with Earth Hour Blue is a wonderful testament to what we can achieve when we all work together.”

Earth Hour and its Super Hero ambassador Spider-Man remind us that “with great power comes great responsibility,” so get involved and use your power at earthhour.org.

About The Amazing Spider-Man 2
We’ve always known that Spider-Man’s most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead.

It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp. Directed by Marc Webb. Produced by Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach. Screen Story and Screenplay by Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci & Jeff Pinkner. Based on the Marvel Comic Book by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. The film will be released in Philippine theaters April 30, 2014, and in the U.S. on May 2, 2014. #SpiderMan

The Hi-Res Banner and Several Photos from Amazing Spider-Man 2

With just hours away from the release of the teaser trailer for Sony Pictures' Amazing Spider-Man 2 I'm putting this up. It's the triptych banner plus several new stills for the film which stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Paul Giamatti and Jamie Foxx

Cosmicbooknews also shared a new synopsis for the Marc Webb film:

We’ve always known that Spider-Man’s most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead.

Colm Feore Rumored to be The Vulture for Amazing Spider-Man 2

Actor Colm Feore's role in Marc Webb has been a tight secret with several speculators thinking that he'll be another villain waiting in the wings. Today Comicbookmovie confirms that Feore will indeed play a villain for the third movie and that he'll be playing a character that can fly - The Vulture.

From what I understood from the post, Feore will play Adrian Toomes, the brilliant old man who created an electro-magnetic harness then turns to a life of crime as The Vulture. The slow exposition and transformation will happen in Amazing Spider-Man 2 but the actual fights might occur in Amazing Spider-Man 3.

Amazing Spider-Man 2 Set Photo Features Gwen Stacy Rescue

The latest set of 'leaked' set photos from Marc Webb's Amazing Spider-Man 2 shows Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man swinging with real life girlfriend Emma Stone who plays Gwen Stacy once more.

What's really interesting here isn't the shot or the action but rather what Emma's wearing. Yes, she's wearing the classic 'Dead Stacy' dress, the one which was shown HERE.

It's Graduation Time for Peter and Gwen in Set Pics from Amazing Spider-Man 2

Life is definitely moving on for Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker and Emma Stone's Gwen Stacy in the new set photos for the film 'Amazing Spider-Man 2' directed by Marc Webb.

More photos after the cut. The one on top however is already an instant classic. Right now I already want a Movie Master Hot Toys figure, a Marvel Select figure and a Marvel Minimate variant of this one.

Paul Giamatti Isn't In the Rhino Suit But Looks Mean in Amazing Spider-Man 2 Set Pic

We all know actor Paul Giamatti will be playing the role of Aleksei Sytsevich aka The Rhino for Marc Webb's Amazing Spider-Man 2 and now we're seeing our first glimpse at the actor minus the grey, warty costume.

So what does this picture tell us?

(A) That those lines on his forehead could be the markers for the costume he'll later be stuck with? (B) That he's probably going to run over somebody (maybe Emma Stone) with what appears to be a truck, because thats how rhinos roll y'know. (c) He's trying to escape and thus driving furiously away from his captors.

I guess we just have to wait for Amazing Spider-Man 2 to come out. Oh and Jamie Foxx's Max Dillon in this film kinda already sucked. The Electro getup was good but the human persona he's playing just looks dumb.

ASM 2 will be distributed locally by Columbia Pictures Philippines and stars Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone just to new a few.

Director Marc Webb once again shares some new production photos from the set of his new movie 'Amazing Spider-Man 2' starring Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone and Jamie Foxx. The photo you're seeing below however is a shot of the destruction caused by Jamie Foxx's character Electro in the film.

As Firstshowing.net noted, the film is already in it's 45th day so we're definitely bound to see what Foxx looks like as the Spider-Man rogue.

Ryan Reynolds Voices Animated Characters in "The Croods" and "Turbo"

Ryan Reynolds lends his voice in the animated 3D movies "The Croods" and "Turbo" coming out this year from DreamWorks Animation wherein both his roles set in motion the greatest changes in the midst of momentous journeys captured in groundbreaking 3D images.

Starring Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone, Ryan Reynolds, Catherine Keener and Cloris Leachman, "The Croods" is a comedy adventure that takes us back to a previously undiscovered era in the history of our planet known as the Croodaceous, when nature was still a work-in-progress… full of never-before- seen creatures and landscapes. Reynolds voices Guy who comes across the Croods family whose patriarch named Grug (Cage) along with his wife Ugga (Keener), daughter Eep (Stone) and the rest of the brood when the earth's core started to move them around out of safety and into a new world.

The Croods Advance Review

The Croods is an excellent animated feature film that's going to rock your world. Find out more about what I think about this new movie offering from 20th Century Fox featuring the voices of Emma Stone, Nicolas Cage and Ryan Reynolds just to name a few.

648x693xThe-Croods.jpg.pagespeed.ic.vk9c21L0P6

The Croods is a pretty awesome movie, with a very entertaining cast of characters as well as a nice theme about family and relationships. The film definitely caters for the kids but it's not necessarily limited to the kids. In fact the adults might pick up a thing or two especially the rebellious and curious daughters and sons and the grumpy, infallible dads.

The story starts with the POV of Eep, the rebellious teenager of the Croods who simply wants to explore her world and not be afraid of the challenges that are outside of the family cave. Of course, daddy dearest does not approve of this and he goes and makes sure that the family stays the way it was, thus ensuring the safety of not only his daughter but also the entire family unit. Things get complicated when Eep meets Guy for the first time and their whole world literally crumbles after that fated meeting. Now the Croods together with Guy and his sidekick/cook/navigator Belt are in for one crazy adventure to reach a safe new world they can call home.

Some Concept Art for Amazing Spider-Man

Sharing some concept art for Sony's 'Amazing Spider-Man'. Not sure whether or not this was for the game or for the movie. But what I do know is that it still features the likeness of Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone as Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy respectively.

tumblr_mi6g3gfhDW1qmzsn0o1_500

I like how the whole thing looks so cool and stylish. Sadly nothing from these concept arts managed to get transferred over to the game nor the movie.

Gangster Squad Review

Reviewing "Gangster Squad" from Village Roadshow and Warner Bros. Pictures starring Josh Brolin, Sean Penn, Nick Nolte, Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone.

The film follows the life of a clandestine group of cops led by Sgt. John O'Mara tasked with taking down mobster Mickey Cohen. The problem that's presented throughout the film is that Penn's Cohen is practically untouchable. Think of the corruption presented in Batman Begins only that it's personified.

The movie is all out action with a couple of gory seasons. At first it might not be your cup of tea but give it a few moments and you'll see that you're in for a good cinematic treat. I know I had fun during the screening.

Three elements make the film such a good watch. First is the non-stop gun battles scattered throughout the film. Hey they even managed to squeeze in an a good car chase somewhere in the middle. The knock-out drag down brawls are great here. The climatic fist fight between O'Mara and Mickey Cohen is something that will keep you at the edge of your seat especially since we've seen how menacing and terrifying Penn's Cohen is.

The other element that I found really interesting in "Gangster Squad" is Emma Stone. Sure there are bashers here and there but I'm a big fanboy of Emma Stone. She totally looked hot in this movie and while she's playing Mickey Cohen's girlfriend Grace, she has some on-screen chemistry with Ryan Gosling (whom she worked with in the past in the film "Crazy, Stupid Love".)

This dame is definitely beautiful. Hands down there's nothing more I can say. Oh wait, yeah, she should definitely hookup with Ryan Gosling. Ditch Andrew Garfield and make go out with Gosling. Mwahahahaha. I can definitely hear one fanboyseo reader going "f**k you Earl!"

Gosling's pretty cool and suave here. His slickness and charm is what's obviously missing from the gangsters under Cohen's employ. My only problem here with Gosling's acting is that it's still pretty pathetic when it comes to dramatic moments. There's the scene where he figures in a street drive by and without spoiling the scene, he tries to cry. TRIES. Gosling tries and really fails when it comes to sob scenes.

Third reason why you should catch "Gangster Squad" is because of the engaging drama. You don't need to know how Cohen figures in the actual history of the Los Angeles crime scene to appreciate the story. Nor is it a requisite to actually know details about life in post-WW2 America. All you have to do is sit down and get ready with your popcorn and your all set.

Don't let a rather dry and dull trailer fool you. Gangster Squad is as angas as some of the more contemporary gangster films. MTRCB has given the film an R-13 so pre-teens are allowed just get them ready for the violence. The movie opens January 30 from Warner Bros. Pictures.

Jamie Foxx as Electro, Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn for Amazing Spider-Man Sequel

The sequel for this year's "Amazing Spider-Man" is growing their cast exponentially as Sony officially welcomes Academy Award winner Jamie Foxx as the villain Electro.

Another confirmed addition to the cast of colorful characters for the young Peter Parker's world is "Chronicle" star Dane Dehaan who will play the role of Harry Osborn.
