How the Real Mandarin Can Enter the MCU

Latino Reviews broke the news recently about Ben Kingsley working once again with Marvel Studios on a 'secret project'. Turns out, as LR reports, that Kingsley will merely be reprising his role as Trevor Slattery, the actor hired to play the Mandarin in Iron Man 3.

The report states that the real Mandarin will make an appearance in order to extract revenge on Slattery (Kingsley) after the latter and Aldritch Killian (Guy Pearce) made a mockery of his name [as seen in IRON MAN 3]

Details are very scarce and honestly, it's not yet confirmed. But on the flipside, it's pretty obvious that there's no other character that Kingsley can portray except the faux Mandarin/ Slattery. So here's a thought, what's a very plausible entry plot for The Mandarin? Obviously Marvel Studios does not intend to let the character and the epic fail-ness of Iron Man 3's main twist lie dead. 

Here's how it's possible to inject Mandarin into the existing Marvel Cinematic Universe:

- The Mandarin looks for Slattery's whereabouts using agents of the TEN RINGS in 'Murica. 
- Agents locate Slattery in prison (where he was being led to in his last few seconds in IM3). 
- Agents kidnap/swap Slattery and bring him to a secret location. 
- There's a confrontation between Slattery and the 'real' Mandarin from the shadows, with the scene focusing on the ten rings of power. 
- Threats and humor are injected
- Slattery is seen being hauled to an operating room where they... 
- Remove his face/ or change his face
- We see the 'real' Mandarin now wearing Trevor Slattery's face. 

Relax it's my theory anyway. The thing here is that the reason The Mandarin wanted to use Slattery's face is because it's already established. He might have been outed as a fake but let's come back to the classic line in IM3; "You'll never see me coming". By using the fake's face, the governments and people like Tony Stark won't see him coming. They would even see him as a joke, a farce; which will serve him better because he's a terrorist and he wants to always surprise his enemies.

Spoiler Heavy Iron Man 3 Review

The long wait is finally over as the third installment of the massively successful Iron Man film franchise from Marvel Studios and Walt Disney Studios has finally been released on our shores and boy does it deliver. Yes, Iron Man 3 is officially in our shores.

Iron Man 3 is directed by Shane Black who takes over the reigns from Jon Favreau who, on the other hand becomes the film's executive producer and reprises his role as Happy Hogan. The film still stars Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts and Don Cheadle as Col. Jim Rhodes aka War Machine. 

New additions to the cast include Guy Pearce as Aldrich Killian, Rebecca Hall as Maya Hansen and Ben Kingsley as The Mandarin. 

Now for the review. Oh and there might be a couple of spoilers here and there so be wary. 

Iron Man 3 Shares Character Descriptions

The official character descriptions of “Iron Man 3” have just been shared by Marvel Studios. While careful not to reveal key plot twists, the descriptions are nevertheless informative and compelling. Let the guessing game begin!

Starring Robert Downey, Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, with Jon Favreau and Ben Kingsley, “Iron Man 3” is directed by Shane Black from a screenplay by Drew Pearce & Shane Black and is based on Marvel's iconic super hero Iron Man, who first appeared in the pages of "Tales of Suspense #39" in 1963 and had his solo comic book debut with "The Invincible Iron Man #1" in May of 1968.

TONY STARK/IRON MAN [Robert Downey Jr.]. Eccentric genius, billionaire, philanthropist Tony Stark is the armored super hero known as Iron Man. Decompressing from his heroic, near-self-sacrificial action as Iron Man that saved New York City from annihilation, Tony finds himself unable to sleep and plagued by worry and trepidation. When his world is destroyed and those closest to him threatened, Tony must find a way to save them—and in the process find himself again.

PEPPER POTTS [Gwyneth Paltrow]. Pepper has progressed from Tony Stark’s assistant to the head of Stark Industries, pausing along the way to fall in love with Tony as well. Bright, loyal and honest, Pepper understands Tony Stark more than anyone and sometimes that can be both a worrisome and a dangerous thing.

COL. JAMES RHODES (RHODEY) [Don Cheadle]. Rhodey is the Liaison between Stark Industries and the U.S. Air Force. He is one of Tony Stark’s few trusted friends and, most of the time, has the patience to deal with the impulsive genius. Rhodey has a new suit of War Machine armor in a red, silver and blue patriotic design. When suited up, Rhodey becomes Iron Patriot.

MANDARIN [Ben Kingsley]. Mandarin is the sinister head of the terrorist organization known as The Ten Rings, from which all the acts of extreme terrorism plaguing the world appear to emanate. Although he is reclusive, Mandarin wields great power and makes his presence known by striking fear in the government and the populace through his brazen plans of attack. 

ALDRICH KILLIAN [Guy Pearce]. Through his privately funded organization A.I.M., Aldrich Killian created a team to further research and develop the Extremis virus, which imparts unusual levels of strength and resiliency to human subjects.

DR. MAYA HANSEN [Rebecca Hall]. Beautiful Dr. Maya Hansen is a brilliant botanist whose work helped create the game-changing biological process called Extremis. Her discovery has the power to change the human body, but it could be very dangerous if misused.

HAPPY HOGAN [Jon Favreau]. Happy is the trusted bodyguard and chauffeur in charge of protecting Pepper Potts. More of a friend than an employee, Happy always has Tony’s back too, even when the eccentric billionaire doesn’t think he needs him. Steadfast and loyal, Happy would do anything to keep Pepper and Tony safe.

Opening across the Philippines on April 24 in IMAX 3D, Digital 3D and regular theatres, “Iron Man 3” is presented by Marvel Studios in association with Paramount Pictures and DMG Entertainment. Marvel Studios' President Kevin Feige is producing and Jon Favreau, Louis D'Esposito, Charles Newirth, Victoria Alonso, Stephen Broussard, Alan Fine, Stan Lee and Dan Mintz are executive producers. The film is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

Iron Man 3 Gets April 25 Screening Date in the Philippines

IMAX Corporation and Marvel Entertainment, a division of The Walt Disney Company today announced that “Marvel's Iron Man 3,” the latest installment of the film franchise that has grossed more than $1.2 billion at the global box office, will be digitally re-mastered into the immersive IMAX® 3D format and released to IMAX® theatres internationally, including the Philippines starting April 25 and in the U.S. on May 3.

“Marvel's Iron Man 3” marks the fourth Marvel Entertainment film to be presented in IMAX theatres, following the releases of “Iron Man 2” in 2010, “Thor” in 2011 and “Marvel's The Avengers” in 2012 – which all delivered record breaking performances in IMAX theatres.

The Magic Behind the Helmets in Prometheus

In returning to the genre he helped define, Ridley Scott continues to push the boundaries of storytelling, both visually and thematically. As he notes, he’s all about the “everything” – from story structure to casting, from sets and costumes to new ways of telling a story. And while the renowned filmmaker is scaring the hell out of you, he never loses sight of the big picture. “After you’ve seen Prometheus,” Scott concludes, “you will have experienced something completely unexpected.”

In parallel to the film’s post-viewing experience, the actors likewise have undergone a gratifying filming experience with the helmets developed for the film.

Scott mandated a globe-shaped helmet with no blind spots. Each helmet had nine working video screens, lighting, an oxygen supply run on two fans with battery packs within the backpack. The exterior of the helmet features a fully functioning torch and HD cameras with a transmitter and recorder.

The helmet has 9 working LED screens, all with specially designed graphics, five of them in the globe, and the others in the glass. The graphics have all been designed by the art department to look like official tech. It's the seismic activity of the land.
