Epic Adventure "Noah" Launches Posters

Paramount Pictures has released the domestic and international poster art for its eagerly anticipated epic adventure, “Noah.”

Russell Crowe stars as Noah in the film inspired by the epic story of courage, sacrifice and hope.
Also starring Jennifer Connelly (“A Beautiful Mind”), Ray Winstone (“Beowulf”), Emma Watson (the “Harry Potter” film series), Logan Lerman (“Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief”) and Anthony Hopkins (“Thor”), the film is directed by visionary filmmaker Darren Aronofsky (“Black Swan”).

Opening across the Philippines on April 02, 2014, “Noah” will be distributed in the Philippines by United International Pictures.

Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters Docks at No. 1 with P78.2 Million Opening Weekend

“Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters” emerged on high seas when it docked no. 1 in the Phils.’ box-office arena on its opening weekend (August 7-11) with a total of P 78.2 million nationwide in almost 200 screens (in 2D and 3D) nationwide.

The opening weekend figure nails “Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters” as the Second Biggest Opening Weekend for a Fox film to open this year, next to the recently released blockbuster “The Wolverine.” Among all other foreign films and one local film playing on the same week, “Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters” grabbed the greater chunk of the overall market share at 51%. Reaching a broader market base this time, the latest "Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters'" box-office sees a 126% increase over the previously released "Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief" movie.

In addition to the latest wave of adventure and spectacular visual effects seen in the movie, its strong opening is also attributed to a solid throng of followers of the book series (authored by Rick Riordan) where the movie is based and to the unstoppable growth of Logan Lerman’s popularity locally.

The movie’s opening weekend admissions also totaled to a splashy catch of 443,702 nationwide from all screens where SM Mall of Asia took the lead with a box-office gross P 3.8 million, followed by SM North Edsa with P 3.45 million. Trinoma tightly followed at 3rd spot with P3.41 million, SM Megamall is at 4th with P2.4 million and Greenbelt3 sums up as top 5th cinema earner with P 2.174 million.

Completing the top cinema earners of “Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters” are Newport (P 2.170M); Glorietta4 (P 2.12M); Alabang Town Center (P2.04M); TheatreMall (P 1.81M); SM Cebu (P1.749M); Gateway Cineplex/AliMall (P1.746M); Powerplant (P 1.59M); Eastwood (P 1.6M); Shang Cineplex (P 1.33M); Ayala Cebu (P1.3M); Gaisano Davao (P1.2M); Market!Market! (P1.175M); SM Southmall (P1.16); SM Baguio (P1.1M) and SM Fairview (P1.08M).

Based on the book by Rick Riordan, the film casts Lerman as a high school teen who discovers that his father is Greek God of the Sea, Poseidon. Indoctrinated into a world of gods, demi-gods and lords of the underworld, Percy’s quest turned Lerman into a star. Produced by Chris Columbus and directed by Thor Freudenthal, Logan Lerman returns in “Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters” with returning cast members Alexandra Daddario and Brandon T. Jackson, as well as new faces Leven Rambin and Douglas Smith, Lerman’s Percy must set out on a quest to retrieve the Golden Fleece of legend, so as to restore safety to his home and school, Camp Half Blood.

PERCY JACKSON: SEA OF MONSTERS Review

My take on PERCY JACKSON: SEA OF MONSTERS from 20th Century Fox. Stars Logan Lerman as the titular Percy Jackson.

There's a lot of great things noteworthy for SEA OF MONSTERS. It's a new PERCY JACKSON adaptation which is always fun. We have to thank of course Rick Riordan and his YA book series for the source material and plot. There's also the great screenplay by Marc Guggenheim together with a fresh new vision from director Thor Freudenthal.

Most if not all of the cast members from the first movie have also reprised their roles. There are also a lot of fresh faces for the series like Stanley Tucci who plays the role of Dionysus. There's also a brief but sweet nonetheless appearance by Captain Mal himself, Nathan Fillion who plays Hermes, series antagonist's father. Oh and there's Douglas Smith who really looks like Brendan Fraser, as Percy's cyclopean, half brother Tyson.

Gotta hand it to the visual effects team for creating astoundingly great looking mythical creatures. We've all seen the Hippocamp from the trailer as well as Charybdis and that mean looking Colchis Bull (yeah, singular, while the book had Colchis BULLS).

Let's admit it, the first Percy Jackson though fun, was a letdown. It didn't know what it was frankly because it was released around the time when the Harry Potter films where hitting the climax point. So it was quite possible that it was trying to follow the HP formula while trying to look hip and modern and different. SEA OF MONSTERS took a different approach. It took the title of a Riordan book, gathered most of the characters, created a fresh take on the story without sacrificing the real plot of the series and took risks and certain liberties as well and made something out of it.

Just to set expectations, Percy Jackson felt and looked like it was designed for tweens and teens. Don't expect an Oscar winning performance from lead Logan Lerman as you'd definitely be disappointed. Expect a bit of grimness and darker themes here though. Action is another thing you get in droves here as the first 20 minutes you'll already see Percy bruised and bloodied. Which is good actually since it raises the odds.

Another great thing here was the animation effects that they used for introducing viewers to the mythical world of gods and demigods. We've seen it before in movies like HARRY POTTER and HELLBOY: GOLDEN ARMY but it works here. It's also practical since it saves much time.

Mind you though, Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters if far from perfect. There's actually quite a few gripes here and there such as the amount of liberties they've taken from the book. There's a lot of plot holes here and there that never gets resolved (or is brushed under the rug, maybe as part of the next movie adaptation). Also the acting can be a bit dry once in awhile.

Regardless, I really think that this is an enjoyable flick. It's got this something that will mystify (no pun intended) Pinoy audience which I'm going to say is one of the easiest people to please when it comes to movies (I'm a testament to that).

First Look at the Characters from Darren Aronofsky's Noah Movie

Massive respect for Darren Aronofsky; the guys a brilliant director and although not all his films equate blockbuster returns, they have depth and meaning that other directors miss out on. That being said, I'm giving his next film "Noah" a try. Here's our first look at the characters in the film including main star Russell Crowe playing the legendary ark builder.

Russell Crowe

Comments: Shouldn't he be holding a hammer rather a dirk? The Noah stories my mom told us when we were kids felt like a jolly (and sometimes very drunk) old man. So why is he all Jor-El mode again? Still, this is Maximus we're talking about so better shut up.

Ray Winstone

Comment: Can't figure out how to look at Ray Winstone. On one side, he's this fierce Viking warrior in Beowulf and the next he's that traitor in "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull". Still good choice if you want menacing, semi-old warrior.

Jennifer Connely

Comments: What the fuck happened to Jennifer Connely? She was beautiful in "A Beautiful Mind" moreso in Ang Lee's crappy "Hulk" movie. So why does she look faded??? Maybe that's what the script calls for.

Logan Lerman

Comments: You can't talk about mythology and deity stories without having to chuck in Logan Lerman (Percy Jackson). He just has to be in this film. Plus it also involves flooding and death so it could be that he's asking his pappy ol' Ned Stark himself to bring the rain.

Emma Watson

Comment: OK we're screwed. After Percy Jackson calls the floods, Hermione Granger's casting the Cruciatus curse on the animals. Just joking.

Anthony Hopkins

Comments: Oh gawd, why did they have to add in Anthony Hopkins, let alone cast him as one of those wise-old-men. Hey for all we know, he could actually be Yahweh here. Something that might be interesting. Still I personally miss the old Hannibal Lecter Hopkins. Oh and Odin doesn't seem so bad as well.
