The opening weekend figure nails “Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters” as the Second Biggest Opening Weekend for a Fox film to open this year, next to the recently released blockbuster “The Wolverine.” Among all other foreign films and one local film playing on the same week, “Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters” grabbed the greater chunk of the overall market share at 51%. Reaching a broader market base this time, the latest "Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters'" box-office sees a 126% increase over the previously released "Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief" movie.
In addition to the latest wave of adventure and spectacular visual effects seen in the movie, its strong opening is also attributed to a solid throng of followers of the book series (authored by Rick Riordan) where the movie is based and to the unstoppable growth of Logan Lerman’s popularity locally.
The movie’s opening weekend admissions also totaled to a splashy catch of 443,702 nationwide from all screens where SM Mall of Asia took the lead with a box-office gross P 3.8 million, followed by SM North Edsa with P 3.45 million. (P1.175M); SM Southmall (P1.16); SM Baguio (P1.1M) and SM Fairview (P1.08M).
Based on the book by Rick Riordan, the film casts Lerman as a high school teen who discovers that his father is Greek God of the Sea, Poseidon. Indoctrinated into a world of gods, demi-gods and lords of the underworld, Percy’s quest turned Lerman into a star. Produced by Chris Columbus and directed by Thor Freudenthal, Logan Lerman returns in “Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters” with returning cast members Alexandra Daddario and Brandon T. Jackson, as well as new faces Leven Rambin and Douglas Smith, Lerman’s Percy must set out on a quest to retrieve the Golden Fleece of legend, so as to restore safety to his home and school, Camp Half Blood.
“Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters” is still showing nationwide from 20th Century Fox distributed by Warner Bros.

Jump Square magazine has announced that two more Rurouni Kenshin movies will be coming out for 2014 and it certainly kick things up as both movies will focus on the Kyoto arc.
ANN broke the news and it looks like the entire cast will once again reprise their roles including lead star and Kamen Rider Den-O Takeru Satoh as Kenshin Himura and Emi Takei as Kaoru.
It's interesting to note that this will also include new cast members; I'm already waiting for news as to who they'd cast as Misao and more importantly the arc's main villain - Shishio Makoto...

"The Hobbit" Ventures to Top of Philippines Weekend Box Office
MANILA, Dec. 17, 2012 – “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” a production of New Line Cinema and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures (MGM), soared to the top of Philippine box office in its opening weekend, earning P55-million on more than 300 screens, including six IMAX theatres. That figure represents the biggest opening ever for any film in the canon of “The Lord of the Rings.”
The announcement was made today by Francis Soliven, General Manager of Warner Bros. (F.E.), Inc.
“The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” is the acclaimed first film in Oscar®-winning filmmaker Peter Jackson’s epic “The Hobbit” Trilogy, based on the timeless novel by J.R.R. Tolkien. Shot in 3D 48 frames-per-second, the film was released in High Frame Rate 3D (HFR 3D) in select theaters, other 2D and 3D formats, and IMAX®.
Soliven stated, “Peter Jackson and his team of actors and filmmakers have delivered another superb film in the canon he established with ‘The Lord of the Rings’ Trilogy. Audiences everywhere have been excited by the prospect of returning to Middle-earth and these results speak to the incredible enthusiasm out there for this new adventure.”
In the U.S., “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” dominated the weekend with an estimated $84.775 million domestically and $138.2 million internationally, for a worldwide estimated total of $223 million, including a record-breaking $15.1 from IMAX theatres worldwide. Ian McKellen returns as Gandalf the Grey, the character he played in “The Lord of the Rings” Trilogy, with Martin Freeman in the central role of Bilbo Baggins, and Richard Armitage as Thorin Oakenshield. Also reprising their roles from “The Lord of the Rings” in “The Hobbit” Trilogy are: Cate Blanchett as Galadriel; Ian Holm as Old Bilbo; Christopher Lee as Saruman; Hugo Weaving as Elrond; Elijah Wood as Frodo; and Andy Serkis as Gollum. The creative behind-the-scenes team returning to Jackson’s crew included director of photography Andrew Lesnie, production designer Dan Hennah, conceptual designers Alan Lee and John Howe, editor Jabez Olssen, and makeup and hair designer Peter Swords King. The costumes were designed by Ann Maskrey, Richard Taylor and Bob Buck. Taylor also oversaw the design and production of armour, weapons, creatures and special makeup, which were once again made by the award-winning Weta Workshop. Weta Digital took on the visual effects for the film, led by senior visual effects supervisor Joe Letteri. The visual effects supervisor was Eric Saindon, with David Clayton serving as animation supervisor. The film features the song “Song of the Lonely Mountain,” performed by Neil Finn.
New Line Cinema and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures Present a WingNut Films Production, “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.” All three films in “The Hobbit” Trilogy, also including “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug,” and the final film, “The Hobbit: There and Back Again,” are productions of New Line Cinema and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures (MGM), with New Line managing production. Movie Review - The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey
Peter Jackson's new film "The Hobbit" brings us back to Middle Earth and takes us on a completely new yet slightly familiar journey together with a mish-mash of old and new characters.
This time however the adventure is shown through the eyes of Bilbo Baggins, the uncle of Frodo Baggins (of Lord of the Rings fame). Baggins is played by Martin Freeman......
I’ve always said time and time again that I hated dwarves be it in comics, movies and whatever, the only two exceptions when it comes to dwarves comes in the form of Snow White’s seven and the dwarves from “The Hobbit”. Seeing “The Hobbit” last night reaffirmed my love for these dwarves, if not even ranked it up higher for me.

Pacific Rim First Trailer - Today We Are Cancelling the Apocalypse
The biggest reason why people aren't talking about how gorgeous Guillermo Del Torro's PACIFIC RIM is because they know very little. Fret not movie fans and kaiju fans as this all ends with the release of the first official trailer for PACIFIC RIM!
SYNOPSIS:
When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity's resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes -- a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi) -- who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind's last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Superman is Chained and Arrested in Man of Steel Teaser Poster
Henry Cavill's Superman is chained and dragged away in this new poster for Zack Snyder's Man of Steel.
I've heard reports of this scene as early as SDCC 2012 but I wasn't counting on this being the first promotional poster for the movie. Anyway the new Superman movie from Warner Bros. will also star Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Michael Shannon as General Zod and is produced by The Dark Knight Rises director Christopher Nolan.
Here's what our friends from Warner Bros. Philippines official statement for this new poster:

Movie Review: Trouble with the Curve
A curveball is a type of baseball pitch requiring a snap of the wrist causing the baseball to run in a downward spin. This type of pitch is integral in bringing together the story of "Trouble with the Curve" starring Clint Eastwood, Amy Adams and Justin Timberlake.
Special thanks to Warner Bros. Philippines for the invites to the special press screening for the film.

Will Warner's Man of Steel Resemble Superman Birthright?
News on the interwebs is circling once more that the soon to be released "Man of Steel" movie from Warner Bros. will resemble DC's Superman: Birthright Book which was written by Mark Waid with art by Leinil Yu.
This of course is speculated following the production of a new synopsis for Production Weekly which was shared by movies.com.
"Clark Kent is a freelance reporter in his early 20’s, traveling all around the world covering various news stories. However, Kent is forced to fly back into action to attain a fleeing assassin instead of covering an ethnic conflict between the Ghuri and Turaaba clans in West Africa. Upon his return to form, Kent returns to Smallville to learn more about his origins and become the hero he was born to be."

ARGO Movie Review
ARGO is a movie so enthralling that you'll cheer when all the good bits get shown. Opens October 17! thanks to Warner Bros.!
The film stars Ben Affleck as Tony Mendez a CIA exfiltration specialist who is tasked to rescue six US Embassy employees/ diplomats who managed to escape the 444 day hostage-taking crisis in Iran in the 1980s. To get these people out, Mendez fakes a movie entitled "Argo" which will be the cover story used to get the employees out of Iran.
