10 Best Alternate Costumes from Marvel: Avengers Alliance on Facebook

I'm spending too much time racking up points to finish stuff up in the Facebook game Marvel: Avengers Alliance and it got me thinking which of the available heroes are the coolest. Here are my top picks...

10. KING HULK from PLANET HULK

King Hulk is a part of my list not because of my fondness for Planet Hulk but because the guy looks totally fearsome. He's got that Gladiator arm protector and all those straps and spikes. I mean, cmon, the Hulk is pretty scary but when you see a Hulk that's all geared up you're definitely in it.

9. EXCALIBUR SHADOWCAT

Team X-Men's other infiltrator besides Nightcrawler gets to wear her old Excalibur costume in the Facebook game. The costume is one of my favorite costumes for Kitty Pryde and with the bonus Lockheed it definitely looks radical and nostalgic at the same time.

8. BROWN WOLVERINE

I picked the classic Wolverine not for any technicalities he brings along when you play the game but once again due to nostalgia and aesthetics. The brown costume looked really classic and I shudder to think that they were not able to bring this out as quickly as possible. That being said, this costume might be more flashy instead of functional but you have to remember that this was what Logan was wearing in the now classic X-Men # 1 by Chris Claremont and Jim Lee.

7. 90s Rogue

Post-modernism be damned! This is what Rogue still looks like when she pops into my head. Didn't like the X-Treme X-Men costume (the one with Red and Blue with matching red shades), but I'm a big fan of what she's wearing in the current X-Men Legacy books as of late...

6. White Phoenix of the Crown Jean Grey

I always did like what Jean Grey when she was powered by the Phoenix. Her appearance during Grant Morrison's New X-Men even made it better. After being caught between a war waged by a Sublime controlled Hank McCoy and what remains of the X-Men, Jean joins the rest of the ultra-powered Phoenixes in the white hot room. Ever since then she's only made short appearances including a brief "cameo" in last week's Uncanny X-Men # 19.

5. FUTURE FOUNDATION SPIDER-MAN

I think this Spider-man costume is the coolest amongst the available 'skins' in this game. Its modern, it has ties to other characters in the game and its also available in two different modes. One version is the Infiltrator version and the other is the scrapper (by default Spidey is an infiltrator).

4. Black Cat "Claws" Costume

I have no idea what the frack "Claws" is about but I do know that its a crossover story featuring Wolverine. That said, I like this costume because its more manga-esque/ anime-esque compared to the default costume worn by Spider-Man's one time paramour. It would have been cool if we could see a version of 'Cat from the current volume of "Defenders" together with that Satan Claw.

3. PHOENIX FIVE EMMA FROST and MAGIK

Since their birds of the same feather (SNAP!) it's only right to put them up as a tie. Visually speaking both Emma and Illyana are great to look at. Their advantages are as follows:

(a) Emma shows off more skin...
(b) Ilyanna has a damn fire sword, how cool is that?!?!

2. PHOENIX FIVE CYCLOPS

Cyclops might have been painted as the bad guy towards the end of AVX (Avengers vs X-Men) but the design of his new Phoenix powered suit has split fans apart. The guys who hate the redesigned costume say that it was an obvious rip at the new costume of DC's Nightwing. Guys like me however think that the costume is pretty neat which is also the reason why I got the new costume even if it means I have to spend more CPs.

1. ANNIHILUS HUMAN TORCH

Another redesign that should have stuck. Johnny was presumed dead during the events of "Three" which prompted Reed to create the Future Foundation. Later the gang finds out that Johnny is actually alive and that he has also become the new ruler of the Negative Zone.

This new costume is what Human Torch was wearing when he returned to Earth after his so-called 'death'. It's pretty cool but it could've been waaay hotter if we could see that tiny baby Annihilus chained nearby.
