The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" Gets Main Poster

The main one-sheet for Peter Jackson's “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” has just been released by Warner Bros., New Line Cinema and MGM Pictures.

From Academy Award®-winning filmmakerm Peter Jackson comes “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug,” the second in a trilogy of films adapting the enduringly popular masterpiece The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien.

The three films tell a continuous story set in Middle-earth 60 years before “The Lord of the Rings,” which Jackson and his filmmaking team brought to the big screen in the blockbuster trilogy that culminated with the Oscar®-winning “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.”

“The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” continues the adventure of the title character Bilbo Baggins as he journeys with the Wizard Gandalf and thirteen Dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield, on an epic quest to reclaim the Lonely Mountain and the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor.

Having survived the beginning of their unexpected journey, the Company continues East, encountering along the way the skin-changer Beorn and a swarm of giant Spiders in the treacherous forest of Mirkwood. After escaping capture by the dangerous Wood-elves, the Dwarves journey to Lake-town, and finally to the Lonely Mountain itself, where they must face the greatest danger of all—a creature more terrifying than any other; one which will test not only the depth of their courage but the limits of their friendship and the wisdom of the journey itself—the Dragon Smaug.

Ian McKellen returns as Gandalf the Grey, with Martin Freeman in the central role of Bilbo Baggins, and Richard Armitage as Thorin Oakenshield. The international ensemble cast is led by Benedict Cumberbatch, Evangeline Lilly, Lee Pace, Luke Evans, Ken Stott, James Nesbitt, and Orlando Bloom. The film also stars (in alphabetical order) John Bell, Manu Bennett, Jed Brophy, Adam Brown, John Callen, Ryan Gage, Mark Hadlow, Peter Hambleton, Stephen Hunter, William Kircher, Lawrence Makoare, Sylvester McCoy, Graham McTavish, Dean O’Gorman, Mikael Persbrandt, and Aidan Turner.

A production of New Line Cinema and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures (MGM), “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug,” will be released in 3D, 2D and IMAX theaters in the Philippines by Warner Bros. Pictures on Dec. 11, 2013.

“The Fifth Estate” is presented by DreamWorks Pictures and Reliance Entertainment in association with Participant Media and is produced by Steve Golin and Michael Sugar, with Bill Condon (“Dreamgirls,” “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn”) directing.

“It may be decades before we understand the full impact of WikiLeaks and how it revolutionized the spread of information,” believes director Bill Condon. “With events still unfolding, this film does not aim to be the conclusive statement on the topic. Instead, we set out to create a drama that explores the challenges of transparency and that, we hope, enlivens and enriches the conversations WikiLeaks has provoked.”

The screenplay is by Josh Singer (“Fringe,” “The West Wing”), based on the book “Inside WikiLeaks” by Daniel Domscheit-Berg, and the Guardian book “WikiLeaks” by David Leigh and Luke Harding.

“The Fifth Estate” also stars Anthony Mackie, David Thewlis, Alicia Vikander, with Stanley Tucci and Laura Linney.

Opening soon across the Philippines, “The Fifth Estate” is a DreamWorks Picture distributed by Walt Disney Studios International.

Cumberbitches Should Get Ready for IDW's Star Trek Khan

Reports are coming in that IDW will be releasing a new miniseries entitled Star Trek: Khan which will feature Benedict Cumberbatch's Khan during the alluded 'Eugenics War' from Star Trek Into Darkness.

The new project will be written by Mike Johnson with art by Claudia Balboni. Even better is the fact that Into Darkness writer Roberto Orci will be overseeing the project to tie-in accurately with the events of the JJ Abrams helmed sequel.



Star Trek: Khan will be released in October. Gotta remind myself to reserve a copy for review despite me not being a HUGE fan of Cumberbatch.

Star Trek Into Darkness Non-Spoiler Review

I've seen JJ Abrams' follow-up to his rebooted Star Trek movie entitled "Star Trek Into Darkness" courtesy of Solar Entertainment. Is it a victim to the 'sequel curse' or does it stand in line proudly with the pedigree of the first movie?

Let me just get out of my system that initially I didn't have any respect for Benedict Cumberbatch. That statement alone will probably earn me some flak from the British actor's fangirls (there's a lot actually, the screening I attended alone had lots of young to teen-ish girls lining up to see Kh err, John Harrison).  Yes, now stick around and find out what I think of him after cut.

We've seen how radically different and at the same time similar the aliens are in JJ Abram's first Star Trek movie, sadly there was a huge gaping hole that was the Klingons in that movie. With Star Trek: Into Darkness however, that hole is gonna get filled with Klingons. Lots and lots of them. New Hi-Res Images for Star Trek Into Darkness

The much anticipated sequel to "Star Trek" entitled "Star Trek Into Darkness" is very pretty to look at and to whet our appetites before it's release within the year, here are several new hi-res images from the film.

 

Mind you some of the images have already appeared in the first trailer for the film. Still it's a pretty cool spectacle.
