Just beat Metal Gear Rising Revengeance on Normal mode and here's what I think about this game.
This new Metal Gear game ditches long time hero Solid Snake in favor of the MGS2 co-star Raiden. While it carries the Metal Gear name, it's anything but. This new game focuses more on action rather than stealth and the gameplay gets a major overhaul as well. In this new game Raiden is hot on the heels of a rival PMC (Private Military Company) which did something terrible to Raiden. Basically, this is a revenge story. Scratch that it actually sets out as a revenge story but then ends up as an entirely different tale. That being said, the story is catchy and brings about some subplots that were mentioned back when players had the chance to control Raiden back in Sons of Liberty such as Raiden repressing his other persona, the dreaded "Jack the Ripper".
Anyway, in this new movie game, the old stealth mechanics is thrown out the window thanks to Platinum Studios stepping up to the plate. Yup, apparently this project was already this close to getting scrapped but thanks to the 11th hour save by Platinum, we can now enjoy this game in the comfort of our homes. Revengeance spells ACTION and not STEALTH. I'd really want to do a more in-depth review, but what the heck, here's bullet points! YAY! (Also starting this point, mostly everything goes ALL CAPS).
Metal Gear Rising Revengeance will soon be upon us so the topic of DLCs is really inevitabitable. So what's the very first DLC that will be released by Konami? Well it's none other than the classic VR Missions.
Back when the Playstation was cool and Metal Gear Solid was the shiznit, I'd spend hours playing the VR Missions if not to hone the stealth skills needed to get a great rank for MGS. This of course is a mighty throwback to that day and age only this time instead of using MGS star Solid Snake (or his daddy Big Boss) we'll be using Raiden.
I've been waiting for this for some time now and it's officially been released - the cover art for Metal Gear Rising Revengeance (even after all this time, it's still a mouthful).
Again if you're going to look for Solid Snake (or Old Snake) or even Big Boss here, you won't find it here in this game because this is the new Raiden show. Think of this as the Metal Gear version of what Square did with Dirge of Cerberus...
Playarts Kai has released new images for the upcoming Raiden figure from Metal Gear Rising Revengeance. The figure will be released around February 2013.
I'm actually thinking of getting this nifty looking action figure. This together with the Metal Gear Solid and the Peace Walker Battle Suit figure.
The Video Game Awards 2011 or VGA 2011 showed a lot of interesting video game trailers but it seems like there were only a handful of games that really kicked ass. One of said ass-kicking games was the Hideo Kojima produced "Metal Gear Rising" which starred MGS2 lead Raiden.
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance will feature a violent and bloody cool fighting system that will be more third player rather than first person shooter.
Players assume control of cyborg ninja Raiden, the katana-wielding ally of series mainstay Solid Snake. Unlike previous titles in the Metal Gear series, Rising is strictly an action game, focusing on swordfighting and a sophisticated cutting system. The game's cutting system allows players to engage in third person melee combat, as well as precisely slash enemies and objects "at will" along a geometrical plane using a "free slicing" mode.
Virtually any object in the game can be cut, including vehicles and enemies, though elements of the environment were intentionally limited to structures such as pillars and walls to better facilitate gameplay. The free slicing mode is similar to other aiming modes in previous Metal Gear Solid titles, but produces a special targeting reticule in the form of a transparent blue plane which can be rotated and moved, tracing orange lines across the surfaces of objects to indicate exactly where they will be cut; it can also be used to enter a bullet time state, giving players the opportunity to precisely slash targets during moments of action, such as slicing through a falling target from multiple angles before it hits the ground.
These features can be employed strategically, for example disabling opponents, finding weak points and gaps in armor, severing support columns to collapse ceilings or walls onto enemies, deflecting enemy fire, or cutting through objects to remove enemy cover.[12][13]
Although Raiden's main weapon will be his high-frequency blade, he will also have "sub-weapons", Kimura revealed; gameplay footage has briefly shown Raiden wielding a dagger in his left hand.[13][14] In the debut trailer for the rebooted title, Raiden was also seen grappling and throwing large robotic enemies, and dramatically increasing his running speed for short bursts.
A key gameplay feature initially announced for game was titled zan-datsu (斬奪 lit. "cut and take"?), and would have involved "cutting" through enemies and "taking" parts, energy, ammunition, items, and information from the bodies of dismembered cyborgs and robots.[12][13] [14] For example, in the E3 2010 trailer, Raiden tears a battery — in the form of a glowing mechanical spine — from a dismembered cyborg enemy, which he then crushes after absorbing energy from it to heal himself.
This gameplay element will not remain as the focus of the game, but will still be optional as of the move to Platinum Games, dialogue in the most recent trailer discusses such extracting of fluids from enemy cyborgs in order to obtain electrolytes.[citation needed]
The game's original director, Mineshi Kimura, stated that Rising would carry on the series tradition of encouraging players to progress through the game without killing, noting that there is a moral difference between attacking cyborgs or robots and attacking human beings, and that there's a "certain virtue to simply disabling your enemies instead of killing them."While it was considered important to give the players freedom to do what they want, the game's original producer Shigenobu Matsuyama, indicated that players would never be rewarded for killing human opponents, and that the game will be designed so that players are never forced to do so.
