Wolverine # 1 Spoilers

Some spoilers for the All New Marvel Now Release WOLVERINE # 1 by Paul Cornell and Ryan Stegman.

So the long and short of it is that Wolverine has turned into a villain, joined a crime group of D-Listers and by also goes out of his way to actually kill an investigative reporter for the Daily Bugle. Of course this happens after the somber ending of Cornell's 'season 1' Wolverine book. The events at the end of Wolverine # 14 spins directly into this.

What kind of villain name is "The Offer"? How is he related to "The Answer"?

BLAM! Wolverine using a gun. Let alone Wolverine killing somebody that's unarmed and a non-threat. Usually it's a bad thing but c'mon, this is Paul Cornell. The guys a great (although underrated) writer.

Next issue has the Superior Spider-Man guest starring. Should be interesting how that pans out considering they're now both inversions of their past.

Bit of review: I love Ryan Stegman's work on this book. It's so fresh to see look at and I already miss him on Superior. That being said, the art and the colors are nice and considering the violent PG-13-esque stories here on Wolverine I think he's a good fit. Please stay on the book Stegman.

SPOILERS: Wolverine and the X-Men # 40

Here's the most important part that happened over at Marvel Comics' Wolverine and the X-Men book this month WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN # 40 by Jason Aaron and Pepe Laraz.

So, Wolverine and Cyclops successfully dismantle a S.H.I.E.L.D. base contain mutant-killing sentinels. They get banged up pretty bad and Wolverine scouts for medical supplies while Scott Summers looks on. Fortunately for these two X-Men leaders, Logan also spots a hidden cache of beer. Boxes and boxes full of beer. Which leads to this lengthy conversation between the two.

Taken out of context, this could be fanfic material for Scott and Logan shippers

Wolverine and the X-Men 040-017

Wolverine and the X-Men 040-018

I like the fact that Wolverine knows how things were and there's an implication that he want things to go back to what they used to be pre-Schism. Logan however is still a sanctimonious dick as a character because he refuses to admit that Cyclops was taken over and influenced by the Dark Phoenix force back in AVX when he kills Charles Xavier.

Wolverine is right however that Cyclops is not seeing it all throughout and Cyke's right about a lot of things about Logan too. There's an old saying that the first road to a full recovery, especially in alcoholics and depressed people is accepting the fact that they are broken or f*cked up. This issue has the two dealing with it and though we're still not seeing a full Scott-Logan bromance here, we can definitely say that we are on the road to a unified X-Men soon.

Oh and there's also a subplot in this issue between the SHIELD spies sent to infiltrate JGH and Aaron's students. But that's not really important for this writer.

Noteworthy Marvel Minimates Toys R Us Wave 18 Figures

Totally skipped the Marvel Now minimate figures being sold at TRU for the reason that they're overpriced and hard to come by. The next wave of Toys R Us exclusives however, I might not pass on as its got Wolverine (again) and another Winter Soldier.

No photo has been released yet but here's the rundown of characters getting the Marvel Minimates treatment.

Marvel NOW! Thor & Absorbing Man
Age of Ultron Wolverine & Gold Ultron
Captain America & Red Skull/Arnim Zola
Falcon & Winter Soldier

My obvious pick from this set would be the Age of Ultron Wolverine and Golden Ultron plus the two-pack featuring Sam Wilson aka The Falcon and the good guy version of The Winter Soldier aka Bucky Barnes. The rest I'll probably sell, that's if I ever get to order this from the States given that these figures sell like hotcakes.

Wolverine # 13 Spoilers - KILLABLE Ending

The current volume of Wolverine ends and it doesn't end with action rather Paul Cornell takes the high road and gives us a full on climatic AND dramatic finish. Wolverine # 13 spoilers up and about.

In this issue, Sabretooth does a half-issue long tirade about the hypocrisy of Wolverine while Logan is bleeding like a pig on the floor, struck down by (what I assume is) the Muramasa blade. Creed decides not to kill off Wolverine and leaves. The virus, which has been Logan's main opponent for this volume, then does a last ditch effort to save itself by offering to use Wolverine's body and restart his healing factor.

The virus dies and when Logan slowly gets back up, he breaks the sword...

... and the soon-to-be-dead Watcher, Uatu makes another appearance...

When Kitty Pryde and Logan return to school, Wolverine's current flame Storm checks on Wolverine and he goes all emo-y with this line...

Wolverine-v5-013-(2014)-(Digital)-(Nahga-Empire)-022

Yup. It's sad and now makes me want to read the next volume, which will feature Logan in a new armored costume and among criminals. It's by Paul Cornell and Ryan Stegman this time.

Wolverine # 13 everybody.

Amazing Moments from Amazing X-Men # 2

I'm definitely good with Jason Aaron's current "Amazing X-Men" book and with issue # 2 shipping out last week, I just had to focus on this in a blog post. So here folks, are some of the best moments (IMHO) from Amazing X-Men # 2 by Jason Aaron and Ed McGuiness.

1. Storm goes Ballistic on the demons

Amazing-X-Men-002-(2014)-(Digital)-(Nahga-Empire)-13

Left with no powers in hell, a very fierce Storm goes ballistic on the demons they are facing. You have to remember that Storm is no pushover. She once defeated Cyclops in a very serious fight without her powers.

2. A Peter Pan Reference

Amazing-X-Men-002-(2014)-(Digital)-(Nahga-Empire)-08

Resident semi-speedster Northstar also joins the fight somewhere in issue # 2 and he actually goes and give off this "Peter Pan" ish feel in his panel. Heck he's even asking if the demon pirates have a captain with a hook for his hand.

3. The Demon Pirate captains...

Amazing-X-Men-002-(2014)-(Digital)-(Nahga-Empire)-14

... are pretty cool. Hey was that Billy the Kid now having six arms manhandling Storm? Check out the knives on the other captain...

Amazing-X-Men-002-(2014)-(Digital)-(Nahga-Empire)-11

4. Iceman Freezes Hell

With nothing to loss, Bobby Drake cuts lose with his powers freezing the demonic horde and, he'll definitely make the Eagles proud what with "Hell freezes over" and stuff.

5. Professor X is in Heaven

Amazing-X-Men-002-(2014)-(Digital)-(Nahga-Empire)-18

One of the really weird things about AXM is the fact that the X-Men are totally oblivious to where they were teleported. Sure you can say that they were not expecting it but doesn't it seem to be a bit off-character to not be able to determine whatsoever where the blue imp-like bamfs have teleported them to. Firestar, Storm and Iceman even took a couple of pages to realize that they were in hell and all that. A bit of a suck that's all.

Oh and yeah, Professor X is making a cameo here in heaven as he's the voice of reason and logic Wolverine is hearing while clinging to dear life on a plank. (Yeah... don't ask)

Overall, I liked Amazing X-Men # 2 and I'm still at the edge of my seat waiting for how they'll overcome this new challege.

Amazing-X-Men-002-(2014)-(Digital)-(Nahga-Empire)-20

And eventually figure out a way to bring back Nightcrawler from the dead.

Uncanny Avengers # 14 Spoilers - Two Deaths

Ugh. Marvel had to stick with the classic make great characters dead and while this definitely proves that the rumors are true, it leaves a bad taste especially for fans of these two characters.

OK time for the ever classic SPOILER ALERT

So what happens here is the team is split into different parts of the Apocalypse Twin's ship. Wolverine was taken out by the his son Daken who was revived as a Horseman. Thor is in another area battling the resurrected Sentry (whom he killed at the end of SIEGE). Wanda (Scarlet Witch) is together with Wonder Man hatching a plan under the watchful eye of Simon's brother the Grim Reaper.

Captain America and Havok are fighting Banshee with The Wasp. It's really only Rogue and Sunfire that's walking freely and they plan on murdering their teammate Scarlet Witch to save mutantkind and the rest of the world.

That's a lot to take and we're not even in the actual issue. Issue 14 climaxes with the scene where Rogue stabs Wanda.

Shiro and Simon are fighting when Wanda drops...

Rogue versus Grim Reaper round 2
She gets impaled by Reaper's scythe, something that should not have happened if Rogue still retained a bit of Miss Marvel's invincibility, well to some extent anyway...

I feel sad for Wolverine at this point because not only does he have to hurt/kill/maim his son again (which he killed during 'Final Execution', he also has to witness the eventual death of Rogue. And try as he may to get her off the Reaper's scythe, it's really no use.

Wanda completes the spell and with that Wonder Man also disappears into thin air, since he effectively has been unmade by the Scarlet Witch.

Dammit Rick Remender. Too much feels.
