7 Shocking Things from Wonder Woman # 7

Here are Seven  shocking things that we learn from DC Comics' Wonder Woman # 7 by Brian Azzarello and Cliff Chiang.

Wonder Woman 007

Before we start with the spoilers, let me just say that I'm enjoying each and every issue of this title as well as the Batman books done by Snyder. So let's get on with it.

1. Eros is a bad a$$

Wonder-Woman-7-Eros-Spoilers

Forget what you know about Eros or Cupid. The Eros for the New 52 universe lives in the city of lights (thats Paris) and at the same time works for Haphaestus (the Greek weapon-maker for the gods). In a shocking move, he also ditches his arrows (which Cupid is more famously known for) and uses bad-ass golden desert eagles.

Not so much of a bad ass though when Eros meets his "uncle" Hermes. Although a quick check on my old Bullfinch shows that Aphrodite (Eros' mother) is actually Hermes' ex (or at the very least her consort) so that would be weird. Or maybe he calls him uncle much like how stepkids call some of their stepfather as "uncle".

2. Shock: Haphaestus

Wasn't expecting to see Haphaestus look like a monster. I really thought he was more of a normal looking deity but good call for Azzarello and his art team for doing a revisionist take on the old weaponmaker.

3. Shock: The Workers are not Robots

Wonder Woman 007 RiZZ3N pg12

See the previous image? At that point, I really though they were just robots working for Haphaestus. Turns out, there are real men working behind the armor.

4. SHOCK: They are the Male Offsprings of Amazons

Wonder Woman 007 RiZZ3N pg13

The second shock comes from finding out that the men also happens to be Diana's brothers. To be more exact, they were actually the discarded offsprings of the Amazons. After all, in Paradise Island having a penis will automatically make you second class citizens, thereby illegal.

5. SHOCK: Happy Trades babies for Weapons

Wonder Woman 007 RiZZ3N pg15

Ol' Happy also informs Wonder Woman that he regularly traded the baby boys for weapons that he creates. Really shocking.

6. Haphaestus Owns a Jewelry Store

Wonder Woman 007 RiZZ3N pg05

Not that much shocking but if you think about it, this might definitely be the god's profession in the real world. Check out the name of store - BEAUTY AND THE BEAST

7. SHOCK: Amazons Hijack Ships then have Sex with men

The issue also shows just how coy Amazons were. Azzarello again makes sense when it comes to reinterpreting old-school Greek Mythology concepts for a new audience.
