So what exactly happened to Cable during the final moments of Avengers X-Sanction # 4 by Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuiness.
To keep it simple, Cable actually lives after attempting to take out the Avengers. Here's how it happened.
After the battle with the combined might of the X-Men and the Avengers (including the Red Hulk and Blaquesmith), Cable lies beaten and defeated after letting his control over the TO Virus (that's techno-organic virus to you).
(And yes he is surrounded by the floating heads of the Avengers he either took down or battled including the Falcon who was his first victim which looks really weird and off-putting).
He gets to return to Utopia under Cyclops' protection because Scott Summers agreed with Steve Rogers suggestion that everything that Cable brought along from the future will be kept under lock and key by the Avengers (which was a bad move).
So anyway in Utopia Hope asks for some alone time with her dad which her grandfather acquiesces. Inside she speaks to Blaquesmith who tells her that Nathan believes in her and her powers.
She proves this point by once again displaying the phoenix raptor...
Which in turn burns out the TO Virus inside Cable's system. And that kids is how we get to see Cable alive and kicking again. He's still older and currently incapacitated but the Avengers oughta run and hide when he gets back on his feet.
Oh and one more thing, we get to bear witness to an astral conversation between father and son thanks to Nathan's returning telepathic powers.
I actually enjoyed this book and at the same time changed my overall outlook towards the books that were written by Jeph Loeb. Amongst all of his works for Marvel, this mini has got to be the strongest one there is... no pun intended.
