New Avengers # 34 Spoiler Heavy Review - Welcome Back Doctor Strange

While there might be a new volume of New Avengers looming in the horizon, we should look at how the final issue of the current volume ended.

So the other Brother Voodoo still has a raging mad-on for the the death of his brother Jericho Drumm (who became the new Sorceror Supreme around New Avengers # 1 Vol. 2).

To make Strange suffer for this failure to save his brother, the insane Brother Voodoo mind controls every member of the two Avengers teams gathered in Avengers Mansion.

I'm going to commend artist Mike Deodato Jr. for kicking ass in this final issue with so much splash pages and all out action, he's one of the few artists that can really work magic on Bendis' sometimes awful writing.

Kudos should passed along Rain Beredo who did a stunning job with the colors especially for the panels with fights such as that panel where Dr. Strange is so spent and the Rulk is looking down on him ready to smash his head in.

There's also bit parts and pages where we get to see different artists do a special one-pager featuring a specific character and Strange. Take this one between Captain Marvel and Doc Strange...

I'm going to give Bendis an applause for this issue as he managed to provide a good book end for his work with this volume. It's a good way of saying goodbye to the team that he managed to keep for a long period of time. Plus the way the story revolved made such sense.

If you haven't read the old school Doc Strange books, you'll have to know that his old teacher was scared of making him use Dark Magic because it would corrupt him (as seen in World War Hulk). Now, Strange is no longer afraid of that and has even come to embrace Dark Magic. Heck he even uses Dark Magic to defeat the mad Brother Voodoo.

Daimon Hellstromm's cameo on this ish is pretty nice as we to see that he's trying to convince somebody special to make a decision. Later in the issue we find out that this 'someone' is actually Strange's teacher, the Ancient One.

The old man not only bestows Strange the Eye of Agamotto but also reinstates him as the dimension's "Sorcerer Supreme" once more (like after 30 plus issues of running around without the title).

While this might be an end of an era for the Avengers, it certainly brings in new readers who have either been spurned by Bendis' writing in the past or from certain other issues like lateness or crappy quality.

Overall, the book got me mesmerized and I'm going to go out of my way and recommend this to you guys.

Verdict: 8.5/10
