Things that I loved about this issue, SPOILER ALERT BTW:
- Seeing the original X-Men training in the modern Danger Room and getting their behinds handed to them. It reminds us that the group is far, far away from the men and woman that they grow up to be. It's also a great excuse for us to see Kitty Pryde really be a mentor and teacher for the class.
- Kitty's been so inactive the past couple of years that its kind of a breathe of fresh air to see her take on a more active, non-headmistress duty.
- Mystique and Sabretooth also enact on their own plans. While the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants might've been smashed during their last encounter with Wolverine's Uncanny X-Force, that don't mean they won't rise from the ashes. Their recruitment drive is rigorous and we get to see that they're very serious as they risk it all to get inside a SHIELD holding facility...
- Lady Mastermind returns after a time in Limbo. If I recall, the last time we saw her was during Matt Fraction's run on Uncanny where she joined the Sisterhood of evil mutants...
Still, for me, the best iteration of Regan was that time when she joined the X-Men under the writing of Mike Carey (Supernovas). Hope her characterization under Bendis'll be good as that.
- It's impressive the way Bendis uses other popculture-y Marvel stuff to make nightmares. Case in point, a cameo by the Marvel Zombies who tear away at the SHIELD guards.
- No action in this book and it was kind of a drag but its still fun to read plus it sets up what seems to be a big battle in the Jean Grey School grounds what with Uncanny X-Men cast just appeared out of nowhere calling out the X-Men.
Other stuff:
- Bendis writing, solid and engaging. Stuart Immonen's art was sorely missed and now that he's back I have to say that it's AWESOME!
