Here's what I thought of Uncanny Avengers # 5 by Rick Remender and Olivier Coipel.
I dig this issue. It's a good break from all that clusterf**k regarding Red Skull. We get to see a different side of this Avengers team. Remender writes the characters as if they were part of an ad-agency instead of an actual team. They even bring in The Wasp aka Janet Van Dyne to help bankroll the team and inject new marketing stuff to make the team trendy and relevant. After all, it's a hardsell how to make humans like the recently returned mutants.
There's also the subplot about Kang the Conqueror and his kidnapping of the Archangel/ Apocalypse's twins, dubbed 'The Apocalypse Twins'.
That's pretty interesting especially since it makes things deadlier for this new team. If you caught the solicits you'll also know that young Thor will be involved in this story, you know, the Thor without Mjolnir running around in Jason Aaron's 'Thor God of Thunder' ongoing.
It's nice that Remender made the Avengers stick to their standard Press Conferences. I grew tired of those 'press conference' settings during Bendis' run but now that it's returning, I welcome it back with open arms. Plus it doesn't hurt that this was done by Olivier Coipel.
Following tradition, this press conference is once again disturbed by a villain, this time in the form of Wonder Man's brother, the Grim Reaper. Reaper beats the crap out of the Avengers and it was left up to Rogue to save the day and stop the rampaging baddie.
Hopefully, Rogue didn't kill the reaper. I'm still more interested with the Apocalypse twins though.
I'm giving this a B-
