Green Lantern # 21 Review

Reviewing Green Lantern # 21 written by Robert Venditti with art by Billy Tan

The latest issue of Green Lantern takes all that's good and awesome about Geoff Johns and plays with it without damaging anything important. Props to Venditti for staying with the established continuity for the book i.e. Hal and the Green Lantern Corp is trying to pick up the pieces after the wanton destruction that happened in 'Wrath of the First Lantern'. At the same time some minor changes are being established here and there such as Salaak resigning from his post; Kilowog taking Salaak's position and more.

Billy Tan's art here fits like a glove. One minor problem is the inconsistency when he draws Hal Jordan's uniform. Regardless of that, the guy draws great action sequences including a surprise attack from Larfleeze the orange lantern who's after the stock pile of enemy weapons that the Guardians kept through the millenia.

If there's really anything that sucks major balls in issue 21, it's got to be the breakup of Carol Ferris and Hal Jordan. No sooner were we treated to a future look at Hal and Carol's lives, we're suddenly seeing it all come crashing down thanks to Venditti. I'm sure that it's just part of the story but you can't help but think that it's just way too early for the breakdown of the pairing. Still some GL fans might be happy that at least our favorite space playboy's free to prance around once again.

Also, that tease for the ending, although cool, did not make any sense to me...

Overall, it's an OK issue, satisfying in fact. I'll just have to readjust to the fact that Carol and Hal will be together, not just now but someday soon.

Verdict: 8/10
