Vin Diesel teased that he was in talks with Marvel for something. Speculations run wild that he was either going to be a baddie, or voice Ultron or become The Vision for the next Avengers movie, Avengers: Age of Ultron. However there's a new rumor swirling.
The new rumor suggests that Diesel is in talks with Disney/Marvel to lend his voice to the Tree Alien Warrior GROOT for next year's GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY.
At the moment everything that appears or wrapped around Diesel should be considered speculative in nature since the role is still being discussed at the moment. Nothing to confirm and no solid evidence.
My take on this though is I think it's a good call. Vin's been known for his gruff voice. If Marvel Studios isn't interested in giving Diesel's (real name Mark Sinclair) to the robotic villain Ultron for Avengers 2, then they should definitely give the Groot casting to Vin Diesel.
Plus if you think about it, it's a win-win situation for both parties. Marvel Studios gets added A-List Hollywood star power (not that they lack it for GOTG) , free promotion thanks to Diesel's pull on social media. Vin on the other hand gets a fat paycheck for the role and doesn't have to act too much because all GROOT ever says is "I AM GROOT".
The only problem here is if they decide to mocap (motion capture) Diesel's movements which will be a pain in the ass.
Hopefully Marvel goes for better judgment and not skimp on money on Diesel (hey I'm perfectly fine for either him being Ultron, The Vision or even Groot).
Update: It seems like a new interview with the actor (LINK) reveals that he's this close to nabbing the role. In the interview he says that he's too busy with other commitments that it would be impossible to do a movie for six months. Plus he also says something about "going the other way when you hit a snag and choosing an unlikely character". That could probably mean that he's choosing Groot because it's next to impossible to get The Vision role.
