Jamie Chung's Q&A for "The Man with the Iron Fist"

The Hangover Part II’s Jamie Chung plays Lady Silk in ‘The Man With Iron Fists’. Producer Marc Abraham explains Lady Silk’s role in the action-adventure: “To buy the freedom of his beloved prostitute, the Blacksmith does what he has to do and builds weapons for bad guys. He’s not proud of it, but he’s justified it. In the end, he decides to free himself from all this and to do the right thing: to destroy those weapons and the people who have forced him to make them, and to hopefully free the woman he loves. Ultimately, Jamie’s character is in love with him, but not so much that she would sacrifice her freedom. She wants wealth, power and to get out. She’s used him to some degree, but he’s touched her.”

What did you think of the script when you first read it?

To be honest, when I first read the script, I didn’t quite get it. Then I met with RZA and I was totally sold on it once I saw his vision.

What was it about RZA that convinced you to be in THE MAN WITH THE IRON FISTS?

His enthusiasm. This is something he has wanted to do for his entire life. When he finally got the chance to do it, he partnered up with all of his buddies. You couldn’t say no to something like this.

The Man With the Iron Fist Trailer Streamed

The trailer for Quintin Tarantino's The Man With The Iron Fist is now streaming and it looks EPIC!

Here's the synopsis:

Quentin Tarantino presents The Man With the Iron Fists, an action-adventure inspired by kung-fu classics as interpreted by his longtime collaborators RZA and Eli Roth. Making his debut as a big-screen director and leading man, RZA—alongside a stellar international cast led by Russell Crowe and Lucy Liu—tells the epic story of warriors, assassins and a lone outsider hero in nineteenth-century China who must unite to destroy the clan traitor who would destroy them all.

Since his arrival in China’s Jungle Village, the town’s blacksmith (RZA) has been forced by radical tribal factions to create elaborate tools of destruction. When the clans’ brewing war boils over, the stranger channels an ancient energy to transform himself into a human weapon. As he fights alongside iconic heroes and against soulless villains, one man must harness this power to become savior of his adopted people.

Blending astonishing martial-arts sequences from some of the masters of this world with the signature vision he brings as the leader of the Wu-Tang Clan and as one of hip-hop’s most dominant figures of the past two decades, RZA embarks upon his most ambitious, stylized and thrilling project to date.

Here are some of the photos released for the first phase of their promotion:

The synopsis doesn't mention the fact that they have former WWE champion and proud Pinoy Batista as part of the cast. Regardless, the film looks beautifully violent (not to mention sexay). While I'm not going to argue over the casting of Lucy Liu in this film, they could have gotten a younger actress like say Ziyi Zhang. I'm guessing that because Tarantino has worked with Liu before on the two Kill Bill movies, she got the part.

The trailer confused me a bit though. If Wu Tan Clan member RZA was the lead in this movie why was he not featured prominently? A comment on Collider.com suggested that RZA's scenes are just damn awesome to warrant lesser exposure.

I think RZA gets less screen time for this trailer is because he's involved in a lot of spoiler heavy scenes. Who would want that right? I'm surprised Russell Crowe is making the big leap to Hollywood summer blockbusters. He'll be playing Jor El in Man of Steel next year so it could be that he's really building momentum.

Quintin Tarantino is definitely upping the ante for next year's slew of popcorn flicks. Better get ready. Well, even he is just an executive producer for this. But hey, RZA on the director's chair could get intense. I'm definitely giving this a go.
