A Geeky Review for The Vow

A very geeky approach for reviewing the film "The Vow" starring the beautiful Rachel McAdams and G.I. Joe's Channing Tatum.

Let's try my hand reviewing a love story. a review that I have yet to master.

So let's begin. The film is the story of newlyweds Leo (Tatum) and Paige (McAdams) whose lives completely change after a car accident that leaves Paige with amnesia. Leo now has to win his wife all over again but that's not as simple as he wants to think. That my guy friends is the basic driving force of the movie.

So how did I find the movie? It was a great movie and here's to hoping we get a lot of love stories like these rather than the rehashed romantic movies they show on local TV.

First off the casting for the two lead stars for the movie was top-notch. Stoic faced Tatum managed to shed a tear and act really depressed. I'm easy to please when it comes to acting and I'm saying this guy managed to nail the emotion. Well, barely actually. You see there were some scenes were he would have made every other guy pissed, and look flustered. For the first time, we see a Channing Tatum that does not look too pissed when he's really needed to be pissed off at a situation.

One scene in particular that caught my attention where he really needed to look pissed but wasn't really looking that pissed was that "sapakan" scene between him and Jeremy (played by Underworld's Scott Speedman ). He should he have been fuming with anger after the insults hurled but all we get was something with a mix between being a lil bit angry and some tinges of jealousy.

One more thing, if you guys plan on bringing the wifey or the girlfriends to see this movie, you might want to bring your poker face on. Especially be on the lookout for one particular scene where.... argh.. too much... must... forget.... must.... repress......

More on this in a bit;

Anyway, actress Rachel McAdams has gone from being the queen bee in "Mean Girls" to being the forgetful Mrs. in this new film. Honestly, the first act post-accident made me hate her to bits; which would mean that it was effective. To a certain degree, she delivered that bit down pat. The next two acts for the movie shed more light into the confusion and the drama that came along with waking up with no short term memory and getting the shock your life finding out that you're married to a complete stranger.

Yes honey, its raining

I'm guessing that its her expressive eyes that makes the film a little more exciting. The heartfelt dialogue between Paige and Leo towards the latter part of the movie was really great and paired with the musical scoring, it made total sense for this new movie.

The cinematography was nice, there was nothing really mindblowing (which, mind you wouldn't work based on the genre) the choices of snippets of music were pretty good as well. It's like you're actually listening to bits and pieces of the playlist from local radio station Jam 88.3 (just for your reference).

One last thing, Sam Neill was in the movie playing Paige's daddy dearest. If you're not familiar who Neill was, then you should go pick out the film Jurassic Park

Verdict:  9 1/2 out of 10

"You'll laugh, you'll cry and if your a guy, you'd probably say 'Napuwing lang ako' especially at the end of the movie".

One last thing, never expected a lot of women last night to go "ayyyy" upon seeing a man's a$$. And they same men are more "haughty" when it comes to seeing these things on the big screen. Hehe. Take that ladies!

  1. The film may be entirely unafraid of predictability, but it’s sweet, shiny and well acted; essentially it delivers exactly what it says on the box. It also helps that Tatum and McAdams are good here as well, but nothing that they haven’t already done before. Good review. Give mine a look when you get the chance.
