Is DC Screwing Around with The Green Lantern Franchise?

Is it just me or is DC Comics screwing most if not all that is hallowed in their Green Lantern franchise/brand?

Methinks that the shit hit the fan for Green Lantern after that awesome flop GL movie starring Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively.

Would have made more sense if the story wasn't so horrible.
Then writer Geoff Johns decides to go and do some retcons and at the same time make changes on the mythos and the whole status quo with War of the Green Lanterns.

The end of that storyarc showed Hal Jordan losing his power ring in favor of arch enemy Sinestro who also happens to be the founder of the Sinestro Corps. This was also probably caused by Jordan killing the renegade guardian Krona.

This led to the New 52 book prominently featuring Sinestro as a co-headliner working together with Jordan on different missions. Including the recent one where they find themselves uncovering the dark history of the Indigo Tribe

And then there was the announcement that Alan Scott will be written in "Earth 2" as a gay man.

This was also around the same issue where Jay Garrick becomes the New Flash for Earth 2. Anyway fans of the whole series might be saying that its a good thing but I find it suspiciously funny that DC is systematically tearing down the things that made Green Lantern such a big hit back when Johns wrote Green Lantern Rebirth.

I mean come on. They're not just happy with the way things are going with Hal Jordan that they decide to either kill him off or make him unavailable for the next months which may or may not include the upcoming Trinity War.

Rumor has it that the Green Lantern Annual # 1 will feature the seeming death of not just longtime GL Hal Jordan but also the complete annihilation of the Green Lantern Corps. This destruction or disbanding has had a long prep time thanks and has been teased a dozen or so times in the different GL books (but mainly in the GL book).

Now there's a small buzz regarding the appearance of a NEW GREEN LANTERN which seems to have traces of Arabic ancestry.

So what do you think guys?! Are they really giving GL a hard time or are they just messing with us, and just plain rile us up.
