Spoiler discussion for Justice League of America # 4 by Geoff Johns and Brett Booth for DC Comics.
Solicit:The League uncovers the leader of The Secret Society of Super-Villains—but can such a diverse group of heroes defeat the collective might of the Society? And in the backup story, Manhunter goes behind the scenes to learn more about the Secret Society!
Okay, before we proceed, this one's going to be filled with lots and lots of spoiler talk. Now that it's clear, proceed past the cut.
So what exactly happened?
Steve Trevor and Amanda Waller sends Catwoman (Selina Kyle) to infiltrate this Secret Society. She gets inside, makes a couple of discoveries and then gets accosted back to where she started.
They mysterious, pale-faced Society leader confronts Catwoman and threatens to kill her if she does not cooperate.
Selina's death scene is interspersed with the birth of the DC villain Dr. Light, formerly Arthur Light.
Oh no!
The short answer to this is no. Not at this time and certainly not when Bruce Wayne just lost his son (both actually if you count the recent falling out between Jason Todd and Bruce Wayne.)
The cliffhanger ending made sure that the headshot inflicted on Ms. Kyle is truly the last we'll ever see of Catwoman. But there are a couple of 'get-out-of-jail' tickets waiting in the wings. First this is Geoff Johns we're talking about, the same guy who brought back Hal Jordan AND Barry Allen from comic book dirt nap a few years before the New 52 initiative.
And knowing Johns, we could probably count on seeing a White Lantern (Kyle Rayner) pop out of nowhere and just bring this Catwoman back to life.
Secondly, Newsarama is currently running a very plausible theory about how this Catwoman is not the same Catwoman that we're seeing (or we're used to). For more details on that click here.
Call it gut feel but seeing how things are unfolding this whole 'Catwoman is dead' is only going to be a cliffhanger and things are going back to the way they were just before Trinity War officially begins. If you've noticed, DC's also been very lousy when it comes to doing things like this which forces them to go 'magically' revive their dead characters. Poor execution, poor planning and plotting.
I'm still betting that Selina'll be back by issue # 6 or at least by the end of the now officially-announced Forever Evil crossover.
