On Why Superman Isn't Solving Everything including World Hunger

Redditors are upvoting this particular panel from GREEN LANTERN # 149 where Superman is talking with Green Lantern Kyle Rayner.

Another shippers delight I'm telling you

Solicit: Guest-starring the JLA! Kyle's newfound powers as Ion may be the only thing that can help the JLA stop an alien invasion! But if that's true, why doesn't the JLA approve of what Kyle is doing? Kyle is forced to look at the way his god-like actions are affecting the world around him. If Superman can't convince Kyle to think twice about his world-changing deeds, then who can?  Comicvine

*** Up to this day I'm still looking for a collected edition of this story arc, where Kyle first becomes Ion and he's going around and doing lots of good and the JLA had to make an intervention with Superman spewing some sense. ***

The issue was written by Judd Winnick (one of his better runs) and Dale Eaglesham. Here's the first cover.

Green Lantern # 24 Spoilers

A couple of Major spoilers from this week's Green Lantern # 24 written by Robert Venditti with art by Billy Tan.

First off LIGHTS OUT officially begins and it's the first encounter between Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps against the ginormous Relic.

In true Galactus fashion, Relic releases his 'energy ticks' that proceeds to suck every Green energy in Oa.

2013-10-02 07-24-28 - Green Lantern (2011-) 024-010

Which sucks out the power from all the rings in Oa as well as the power batteries in Oa's vault...

2013-10-02 07-24-28 - Green Lantern (2011-) 024-014

... and when everything was consumed, Relic's ticks went straight for the Central Battery

2013-10-02 07-24-28 - Green Lantern (2011-) 024-017

The drain results in the explosion of the power battery...

2013-10-02 07-24-28 - Green Lantern (2011-) 024-019

Which doesn't seem so bad until Salaak reveals that the central battery was connected to Oa's core. An explosion like this will cause a chain reaction to the core...

2013-10-02 07-24-28 - Green Lantern (2011-) 024-020

That's how you officially start LIGHTS OUT in GREEN LANTERN.

The Justice League Timeline Prior to the New 52

Thanks to the decades worth of continuity for DC Comics, it became pretty hard to track down or at the very least understand the changes that have happened to the Justice League/ Justice League of America. Luckily for us, Comicvine had the time and the manpower to create an infographic featuring the entire Justice League timeline until the start of the New 52 in 2011.

I apologize this being rather small but I'm sure you can zoom in the chart to the point where you actually understand what's written on it.

I definitely have this feeling that they'll be coming out with a same-scale Darkseid once they've completed the initial Justice League team.

GREEN LANTERN: NEW GUARDIANS # 23 Spoilers - More Death

More deaths are happening in space in the latest issue of Green Lantern: New Guardians # 23 by Justin Jordan, Brad Walker and Andrew Hennessy.

Kyle tries to face off against RELIC but the big-ass baddie simply sways him away like a fly on a taco. Seeing how insignificant he is, Kyle feels desperation and tries to take off with everybody including the Blue Lantern Corps (under the control of Brother Warth, as Saint Walker's been knocked out a bit).

And they do a sacrifice play with the Giraffe Blue Lantern. Just when I've grown fond of the idea of a giraffe for the BLC.

And there's a new mystery here. The fact that the blue light can actually supercharge energies outside of the Green Lantern corps. Pretty impressive and lets hope Justin Jordan explores that bit once we're clear of this whole Relic debacle.

Oh god! That's just horrible. The BLC guys are superchargers, they can't hurt other people and are the most optimistic guys and gals in the DCU. And to see them die like this...

Will Bryan Cranston Be Getting the LEX LUTHOR Role?

From the looks of things Warner Bros. isn't really done with casting announcements for MAN OF STEEL 2 aka SUPERMAN/BATMAN aka WORLD'S FINEST. That's of course if you were to believe Cosmicbooknews' report that WB has already found their Lex Luthor in the form of BREAKING BAD star Bryan Cranston.

If we are to believe the only website that ran the story, then it looks like that Cranston got the bigger share of votes from another actor rumored to have gotten WB's attention - Mark Strong... who also happens to be SINESTRO in the GREEN LANTERN movie.

Again, I'm taking this bit of information with a grain of salt, and I'd like to comment on how perfect Cranston would be for the role. He can go from charming, demure and shy which was Walter White in the early parts of Breaking Bad's season to an egomaniacal, power hungry tyrant. Oh and in between you can see that he can also go for damaged genius once in awhile. That alone is perfect chemistry for a good Lex Luthor. Oh and a high tech battle suit wouldn't hurt either.

New 52 Luthor in his battle suit for Villain Month
Point is (a) take the Cosmicnews story with a grain of salt and don't assume that it's a 100% accurate because there's been no real announcement from Warner Bros. regarding this casting. (b) Bryan Cranston is perfect for the role of Lex Luthor if you ask me. (c) Mark Strong should really stick with Sinestro because he was such a great yet underused bastard in Ryan Reynold's Green Lantern.

Justice League of America # 5 Spoiler Review

Justice League of America # 5 review by Geoff Johns and Brett Booth. This review was done in partnership with Comicx Hub and Castle Geek

In this issue, Catwoman's not so dead after all, Martian Manhunter confronts the mysterious big boss of the "Secret Society". Steve Trevor and the rest of the JLA including Green Arrow and Star Girl team up to take down the Shaggy Man. Green Lantern Simon Baz also joins the team. We also find out that A.R.G.U.S. agent Chronos is the power source for the Society's teleporting mansion.

On the Geoff Johns: It took five issues for the slam bang action to really kick into full gear. I should be mildly annoyed by such a long time but I'm going to let it slip thanks to the satisfying fights all packed in this issue. The tease is also killing us. Johns had the good idea of answering some questions but leaving readers with more. Like who is that pale man calling the shots? Who is the man still in the shadows? Where did the the Society teleport to? Still great exposition.

On the JLA fights: I just loved all the fights here in this issue. the first round between Hawkman and the Shaggy Man was very painful to watch though. But the moment back-up arrived, things just went swell.

On the apparent death of Catwoman: It sucked and it's also a very predictable plot point (which was also very neatly discussed briefly in the Matt Kindt written backup story featuring Martian Manhunter). It also sucked that none of the conspiracy theories that were released and revealed were true. Too bad.

And yes, it was the Martian Manhunter...

On the art: I do not mean this as an offense but I would really wait each month for the release of Justice League of America with Brett Booth on art duties as opposed to seeing David Finch's work. Finch's work is fine and all but it really doesn't suit the story and the energy of a title such as this. In short, I'm officially a fan of Booth's work here in JLA. Want to see more.

Finally, I know we've already seen Doctor Light in the teasers for Trinity War but this is the first time he's really going to show how he plays ball with A.R.G.U.S...

Verdict: 8/10

A couple of new images for the direct-to-DVD animated feature "Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox" set for release this July.

“When time travel allows a past wrong to be righted for The Flash and his family, the ripples of the event prove disastrous as a fractured, alternate reality now exists where a Justice League never formed, and even Superman is nowhere to be found. Teaming with a grittier, more violent Dark Knight and Cyborg, Flash races to restore the continuity of his original timeline while this new world is ravaged by a fierce war between Wonder Woman’s Amazons and Aquaman’s Atlanteans. With breath taking action and an all-star voice cast, it’s a bold, emotional vision that will forever change the landscape of the DC Universe.”

DC Comics to Launch Justice League 3000 Book with JLI Team

Bleeding Cool breaks a story of how DC Comics plans to release a new 'future' book featuring the Justice League 3000.

The popculture rumor site is also insinuating that the Flash-like character with the red hair is actually the long missing Wally West and that this is the Donna Troy Wonder Woman we're actually seeing.

Meanwhile, here's the hi-res versions from CBR of the concept art for Justice League 3000 by Keith Giffen, Kevin Maguire and JM DeMatteis.

Parting shot: You know, it still doesn't make sense why legacy characters like Wally and Donna don't appear in the New 52 continuity. It's sad but this new Justice League project sure fills out that void while letting DC be coy about the status of the 'real' Wally, Donna and hell even Stephanie Brown.

Green Lantern # 21 Review

Reviewing Green Lantern # 21 written by Robert Venditti with art by Billy Tan

Green-Lantern-021-(2013)-(2-covers)-(Digital)-(Nahga-Empire)-01

The latest issue of Green Lantern takes all that's good and awesome about Geoff Johns and plays with it without damaging anything important. Props to Venditti for staying with the established continuity for the book i.e. Hal and the Green Lantern Corp is trying to pick up the pieces after the wanton destruction that happened in 'Wrath of the First Lantern'. At the same time some minor changes are being established here and there such as Salaak resigning from his post; Kilowog taking Salaak's position and more.
