SPOILERS: On Why Aquaman Was Absent in Justice League War

Justice League: War has already been released (a tad early too) and people are loving it. I for one love it but there seems to be a little beef with to the roster change for the League. I mean come on, Aquaman is and will always be a founding member so why is he absent from this animated flick?

There's actually a specific reason for the absence and that it also ties into whatever's coming next for DC's animated movie. Here's the description from Newsarama...

"After the devastation to Earth due to the attack by the forces of Apokolips, a shot of the ocean is shown. In the water lay swathes of dead fish and other sealife – and then waves start from the middle of the water. A vessel rises, and with what sure seems to be the helmet of Orm, Ocean Master (Aquaman’s brother). In his arms lie a dead old man. Ocean Master says, “The Surface Dwellers have killed our king. This is an act of war. And they will pay.”"

Ocean Master carrying the body of what appears to be the elderly king of Atlanti? Waitaminute...

Are we really going full Throne of Atlantis here? That'd be awesome. I liked that storyline written by Geoff Johns.

Aquaman Gets a Second Book - Aquaman and the Others

Aquaman is starting to really dominate the DC books what with his regular appearance in Justice League and his own book and now, just announced, a second book called "Aquaman and the Others".

The book's opening creative team is a powerhouse in their own right as well, Dan Jurgens will be writing the book while 'kabayans' Lan Medina (pencils) and Ed Tadeo (inks) will be doing the interior art.

IGN reports that the Aquaman and the Others will "feature Aquaman’s team of Others being hunted by a mysterious foe who wants the golden Atlantean artifacts that give them their powers."

The book comes out April 2, 2014

Aquaman # 25 Spoilers

One of the top 10 consistently entertaining books from DC Comics' New 52 initiative has got to be Aquaman by Geoff Johns. It's made the guy cool and relevant and more importantly, erased the whole notion of the superhero as a laughingstock. Issue # 25 is Johns' last run on the book and while this spoiler is a bit old, it did let slip a couple of things.

So basically what happens is Aquaman finds the Dead King's scepter which he uses to control the creatures called The Trench. He leads them to Atlantis where he rescues Mera from prison where she got thrown six months ago. The ensuing chaos gets thick when Arthur and the Dead King find each other. Aquaman gets the upper hand and the Dead King tries to sink Atlantis but Arthur stops him.

The fight goes to a volcano where the Dead King's scepter melts and the icy king melts due to the extreme heat.

Aquaman returns to throne and together with Mera (that's the short of it) and though this chapter ends we get a peek into whats coming next for the King of the Seven Seas and it involves Ocean Master.

Apparently, he's taken refuge in the house of that family he rescued back in the Villain's Month special...

So the next crisis for the Geoff Johns' Justice League would be "Rise of the Seven Seas" after "Throne of Atlantis".

The Justice League Timeline Prior to the New 52

Thanks to the decades worth of continuity for DC Comics, it became pretty hard to track down or at the very least understand the changes that have happened to the Justice League/ Justice League of America. Luckily for us, Comicvine had the time and the manpower to create an infographic featuring the entire Justice League timeline until the start of the New 52 in 2011.

I apologize this being rather small but I'm sure you can zoom in the chart to the point where you actually understand what's written on it.

Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox Releases New Images

A couple of new images for the direct-to-DVD animated feature "Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox" set for release this July.

“When time travel allows a past wrong to be righted for The Flash and his family, the ripples of the event prove disastrous as a fractured, alternate reality now exists where a Justice League never formed, and even Superman is nowhere to be found. Teaming with a grittier, more violent Dark Knight and Cyborg, Flash races to restore the continuity of his original timeline while this new world is ravaged by a fierce war between Wonder Woman’s Amazons and Aquaman’s Atlanteans. With breath taking action and an all-star voice cast, it’s a bold, emotional vision that will forever change the landscape of the DC Universe.”

Early Designs and Looks for Bruce Timm's Justice League

Ever wonder what the Justice League looked like at an early stage of development? Found this somewhere in the Internet featuring an early draft with a roster featuring Aquaman in the lineup.

If I'm not mistaken this was very near the the character lineup which was featured in an issue of Wizard Magazine.

10 Thoughts on Justice League # 15

DC Comics has released parts 1 and 2 of the crossover arc "Throne of Atlantis" which pits The Justice League against Atlantis with Aquaman caught in the middle. Here's a look at the first part which is Justice League # 15 written by Geoff Johns with art by Ivan Reis

Also Jim Lee departs from the book that he started but he did leave a nice variant cover...

Check out my thoughts on this book after the cut.

DC and Mattel to Dish Out Injustice: Gods Among Men Action Figures

Mattel recently shared a photo of their upcoming wave of DC Comics related figures (DCU) which includes the New 52 Darkseid and the Injustice: Gods Among Men Superman.

I have to admit that the Superman looks rather unique and is definitely doing its job of teasing us regarding the upcoming fighting game.

The New 52 version of the Jack Kirby creation looks horrible on the other hand. It's legs are not proportioned and those huge looking shoulder pads are a terrible throwback to the 90s. Also it doesn't help that the same shoulder pads looks like leather or something weird.

Oh and let's not even go to Aquaman. :(

Aquaman # 14 - Ocean Master Reminds Arthur Why Atlantis Should Be Respected

In as much as I liked Aquaman, I'm a bit bored with this month's issue featuring the semi- appearance of Arthur's brother Ocean Master

Oh and this issue also happens to be the prelude to the Aquaman/ Justice League crossover entitled "Throne of Atlantis".

Another Great Moment for Aquaman in Justice League # 14

Leave it to Aquaman to catch the Cheetah in such a cool fashion in Justice League # 14.

The book is written by Geoff Johns and features art by Tony S. Daniel...

In this new issue, the Justice League tries to capture Barbara Minerva aka The Cheetah and they manage to do so with some serious badassery courtesy of Aquaman...

Yeah, that's Aquaman summoning all the flesh eating piranhas he can muster and holding Cheetah as bait.

It's clever bits like this that make me want to stay on the title even without Jim Lee. This single page alone indicates that Arthur is not one to be trifled with especially as we officially begin the next JL arc which crosses over with Aquaman and is entitled "Throne of Atlantis".
