Chuck Palahniuk Teases Fight Club Sequel in Graphic Novel Form

Looks like the adventures and misadventures of Tyler Durden will carry on albeit in graphic novel form. In SDCC 2013 FIGHT CLUB author Chuck Palahniuk made an appearance to promote his new novel "Doomed". 

During the panel, he revealed that he's in the early stages of doing a sequel to his book. The cool thing about this is that he even shares the basic plot with the con-goers. The sequel's setting is a decade after the events of the first book. Here's the excerpt from the Empire's article:

"“Nowadays, Tyler is telling the story, lurking inside Jack, and ready to launch a comeback. Jack is oblivious. Marla is bored. Their marriage has run aground on the rocky coastline of middle-aged suburban boredom. It's only when their little boy disappears, kidnapped by Tyler, that Jack is dragged back into the world of Mayhem."

So it looks like the book's ending will come true and the Project Mayhem cultists were spot on when they confronted the Narrator (Jack). It's also interesting to note that the one whose doing most of the driving POV is Tyler Durden; and being a total badass, he does so while stuck inside the deepest recesses of the narrator's mind.

Sadly no artist onboard this one...yet...

The Next Best Thing to See The New Godzilla is this Gif

I love gifs for the simple fact that you can't take them down easily. Probably by tomorrow, all the videos that are coming out of the woodwork featuring the SDCC trailer for Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures' GODZILLA would have been brought down. But this gif will stay, just like the King of Monsters himself.

Teaser Poster for X-Men: Days of Future Past Featuring Young and Old Xavier and Magneto

Fresh from SDCC 2013 comes two new posters for Bryan Singer's X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST featuring the old and young version of Magneto and Charles Xavier.

If you're not aware, the young Magneto, as seen in X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, was played by Michael Fassbender while the elder Mags was done in the original trilogy by Sir Ian McKellen.

As for Charles Xavier, we've got Patrick Stewart for the older version and James McAvoy (Wanted, Trance) as the younger version. 

We have to thank Entertainment Weekly for showing us this amazing teaser poster. That alone will stoke fans who are preparing for the worldwide release next year. 

Interestingly enough, McAvoy is definitely sporting the dishiveled look, the same look he was spotted a month or so ago on the set of the film. Are they going to go with that look for the entire film?

Also it seems like the older gentlemen are definitely wearing the battle armor that was seen earlier.

First Look at Caesar from Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

SDCC 2013 also debuted the first teaser trailer for the film DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES from 20th Century Fox. In fact, here's our first look at Caesar (Andy Serkis) and his new simian council.

According to reports and posts I've encountered online, the story picks up decades after the ending of DAWN and humans are slowly dying out thanks to the virus that James Franco's character inadvertently created. Yes, the same drug that gave Caesar and the rest of his posse their intelligence. 

Bleedingcool's Brendon Connelly also liveblogs that the king primate will now have a family of his own with a wife and a teenage son. Plus he's also the leader of around 2,000 or so apes. Wonder if the gorillas and the orangutans will still be there. 

We don't have to wait much for this film as this comes out next year. 

AVENGERS 2 Officially Titled AVENGERS AGE OF ULTRON

Not to be outdone by the Superman/Batman announcement, Marvel Studios took to the stage at SDCC 2013 and revealed details regarding the next installment on their wildly popular AVENGERS franchise.

Here's a description of how things panned out in the Marvel panel in SDCC 2013 from Collider:

"Marvel President Kevin Feige is about to leave the stage in Hall H following the panels for Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and Guardians of the Galaxy. An amped up crowd is shouting “More!” Feige returns, takes a seat, and says “There’s only one more person here. He wanted to say, ‘Hi.’ Joss Whedon!” Whedon takes the stage. “Hi. I know it’s time to go,” he says, “and I don’t have a lot to say, but I have something to add.” We cut to a trailer of quotes from The Avengers over something metal being hammered. The metal has a strange red glow. The last quote we hear is what Nick Fury told Maria Hill about the group coming back together when they world will need them. The camera then pulls out to reveal Ultron’s helmet. We then get the title for the highly-anticipated sequel: The Avengers: Age of Ultron."

Now the countdown begins for May 1,2015, to be distributed locally by Walt Disney Studios Philippines. 

One more thing, being that this is going to be AGE OF ULTRON, should we expect to see ANGELA at the end? 

Update: People think I was serious with the question. Obviously they just borrowed the title because it sounded cool.  C'mon guys. Seriously???

Director Zack Snyder Unites Superman and Batman in One Explosive New Film

BURBANK, CA, July 20, 2013 – On the heels of the worldwide success of “Man of Steel,” director Zack Snyder is bringing together the two greatest Super Heroes of all time—Batman and Superman—for the first time on the big screen. The announcement was made today by Greg Silverman, President, Creative Development and Worldwide Production, and Sue Kroll, President, Worldwide Marketing and International Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures.

The current hit, “Man of Steel,” has taken in more than $630 million at the worldwide box office to date, and climbing. Along with its star, Henry Cavill, the upcoming film brings back Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane. The new Batman has yet to be cast.

Snyder is co-writing the story with David S. Goyer, who will then pen the screenplay. Production is expected to begin in 2014, with an anticipated release date in Summer 2015.

Silverman stated, “Zack Snyder is an incredibly talented filmmaker, but beyond that, he’s a fan first and he utterly gets this genre. We could not think of anyone better suited to the task of bringing these iconic Super Heroes to the screen in his own way.” Kroll added, “We are thrilled to be back in business with Zack and his team on this next movie. The success of ‘Man of Steel’ is a wonderful testament to the love and support that both fans and new audiences, worldwide, have for these characters. We are very excited to see what Zack has in store for all of us.”

Diane Nelson, President, DC Entertainment, noted, “Superman and Batman together on the big screen is a dream come true for DC fans everywhere. All of us at DC Entertainment could not be more excited for Zack’s continuing vision for the DC Universe.”

Zack Snyder, who made a surprise appearance at Comic-Con today, breaking the news to audiences there, later said, “I’m so excited to begin working again with Henry Cavill in the world we created, and I can’t wait to expand the DC Universe in this next chapter. Let’s face it, it’s beyond mythological to have Superman and our new Batman facing off, since they are the greatest Super Heroes in the world.”

The new film brings back Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder as producers. This time, Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas are serving as executive producers, along with Benjamin Melniker and Michael E. Uslan.

Thomas offered, “Whilst our ‘Dark Knight’ trilogy is complete, we have every confidence that Zack’s fresh interpretation will take the character in a new and exciting direction. His vision for Superman opened the door to a whole new universe and we can’t wait to see what Zack does with these characters.”

The film is based on Superman characters created by Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster, and Batman characters created by Bob Kane, published by DC Entertainment.

Superman/Batman Finally Happening

One of the biggest (if not the biggest) news from SDCC 2013 is the announcement of a SUPERMAN/BATMAN movie.

Obviously no details yet. The announcement alone is big enough. This'll probably be the talk of the town for a good week or so. To add more brevity to the announcement, Zack Snyder had this soundbite featuring the voice of the guy who played General Swanwick in "MAN OF STEEL". 

"I want you to remember, Clark…in all the years to come…in your most private moments…I want you to remember…my hand…at your throat…I want…you to remember…the one man who beat you."

That line of course was utterred famously by Batman during his fight with Superman in Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns...

On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give this around 8.5. This also reminds me of that poster we saw years ago from the film I AM LEGEND.

Wolverine Origin II Announced and Why It's a Disaster

Paul Jenkins and Andy Kubert did a spectacular number on Wolverine's history with Origin, a six issue miniseries focusing on James Howlett who later became the savage Wolverine. This weekend over at SDCC 2013, Marvel Comics announces that there will be a sequel.

So okay, to make it simple, the story begins around the time Wolverine turned feral towards the end of Origin. He's literally running with wolves because he wants to forget that he accidentally killed Rose. This time though, years had gone by and we're seeing circumstances bringing Logan back to civilization.

That's about it for the fun part. I loved Origins and how tragic it ended for the characters; it's got so much heart and heartbreak, making it one of the better Wolverine stories out there today. Kieron Gillen's an amazing writer but I don't see him as a good fit as the writer for a sequel. 

Read the CBR Interview and you'll see your reaction go from happy and anxious to just downright dismayed. 

Are you back?

So let's discuss a bit. First Gillen wants to piece in Mister Sinister in a Wolverine story. That's all good and well but any X-Fan would know that Sinister is more apt for the Summers or for Gambit (who was supposed to be the third Summers brother anyway). Plus we also know that Gillen has a man crush on Sinister and quite frankly its getting boring and annoying. 

Secondly there's a the part about turning Wolverine into a circus attraction as seen in Gillen's allusion to "King Kong" when asked about how Logan returns to civilization after his decades as a wild animal. 

So basically here's how I see it. Marvel wants our money. They don't reunite the original creative tema but rather hire new guys to takeover. Kubert is hired back because of his art and because of his name. It's not going to a real Wolverine story but another Gillen love letter to Sinister (which plainly annoys me). 

At this point, I'll wait for the book with no real fanfare. Just disappointed waiting to happen. And yes, seeing how flimsy Wolverine Origins II would be, I'm still sticking with the original ORIGIN.

First Look at Sentinels and Bishop for X-Men: Days of Future Past

Arguably one of the hottest reveals/announcements from SDCC 2013 belongs to Marvel's Mighty Mutants particularly, one with strong Filipino roots. Yes folks, here's our first look at Omar Sy as Bishop for Bryan Singer's X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST

Man, I'm not sure about the red eye but 20th Century Fox nailed him right. Just look at the dreads and the classic "M" on his face (which is basically given as a mark to mutants in the future, just ask X-Factor's Jamie Madrox).

Anyway, if you're wondering where this look for Bishop was based on, wonder no more. That look came from his ongoing: BISHOP: THE LAST X-MAN

Here are the other photos from the new release including Lucas Till as Havok and Nicolas Hoult as Beast and more importantly HUGH JACKMAN as THE WOLVERINE!

I also noticed that for the old timers to the franchise i.e. Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen and Daniel Cudmore who plays Colossus, battle armor is the general consensus. Though I'm not 100% open to the idea, it does seem to make sense given that there's a full-scale war in the future between Mutants and Man, not to mention they will need added protection when they encounter Sentinels. 

Speaking of Sentinels, these mutant-killing mechas are also present in this year's San Diego Comic Con. Here's a look at the display which commemorates Bolivar Trask's Sentinel Mark I.

New Assassin for Batman: Arkham Origins Revealed as Copperhead

The villain Copperhead is revealed to be the member of the 9 elite assassins sent to kill a fledgling Batman in the game "BATMAN: ARKHAM ORIGINS".

Batman: Arkham Origins will be available for the Wii U, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC on October 25, 2013.

Finally HEROES Comics Courtesy of Dynamite

Tim Kring's one famous TV series HEROES is finally getting a comeback AND more importantly getting said revival in comics format!

CBR reports from SDCC 2013 that Dynamite Entertainment has picked up the rights to publish an ongoing comic book with writer Cullen Bunn helming the project.

"Right off the bat, Claire is going to be our point of view character. The first issue is centered more on her than anyone else. That said, you're going to see most of those core characters early on in the first few issues. Hiro was the character I always liked most in the show for a number of reasons. So you'll be seeing him and Sylar and a bunch of others who will get thrown back into the story early on. Claire, Hiro and Sylar will be big right off the bat, but it won't be long before you see all the core characters."

Looking good. I always was a big fan of HEROES and even though Season 3 was a big pain in the ass, I still welcome this. 

Tom Cruise's All You Need is Kill Renamed Edge of Tomorrow and Gets New Poster

Been wondering what happened to the live-action, Western adaptation of the manga "All You Need is Kill" as it suddenly dropped off the grid. Apparently it's back with a new name and a pretty interesting poster as well coming from SDCC 2013.

The movie is now being called "Edge of Tomorrow" and will still star Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt.

Seriously what is up with Tom Cruise movies and their titles? I mean, OBLIVION? EDGE OF TOMORROW? I smell Scientology at work here.

Legendary and Warner Reveals Godzilla Poster for SDCC 2013

It's that time of the year again when just about the cool stuff gets released and I go batshit crazy trying to catch up. Yep, it's Comic Con International once again. For our opening salvo, here's the GODZILLA poster unveiled for SDCC 2013.

The movie will be released next year (distributed locally by Warner Bros. Pictures Philippines). It's directed by Gareth Edwards and stars Aaron Taylor- Johnson.

Guardians of the Galaxy Roles for Del Torro, Pace and Gillian Revealed

Den of Geeks is fighting the currents with their daring confirmation for the roles of three stars attached to Marvel Studios' "Guardians of the Galaxy" namely Benicio Del Toro, Lee Pace and Karen Gillian.

The long retracted/ redacted role of the Collector (Taneleer Tivan) is given to Benicio Del Toro and if you look at the photo below, you'd see why this is a perfect fit.

If that's not a perfect fit then I don't know what is. My only concern is that Del Toro has this slurred speech. It's not an impediment but it does ruin some great dialogue (assuming we get good lines from this villain).

Here's a bit of info about the character from Wikipedia: "Taneleer Tivan is one of the Elders of the Universe and is close to his fellow Elder En Dwi Gast (the Grandmaster). He apparently came to self-awareness billions of years ago, on the planet Cygnus X-1. He is an enormously powerful being who wielded the Power Primordial and, though at first he took the appearance of an old human, his true form is a powerful alien."

Former Dr. Who star Karen Gillian's role has also been revealed as being the alleged granddaughter of Thanos, the intergalactic terrorist Nebula.

This of course debunks the previous rumor I posted about the redheaded beauty being cast as Angela. Which kinda sucks because with her auburn locks, she could've been perfect as the angelic Spawn-hunter.

My favorite 'confirmation' however happens to be what actor Lee Pace will be playing. According to the news that Den of Geeks broke, the former star of "Pushing Daisies" will be playing the role of Kree accuser and frequent Fantastic Four foe Ronan the Accuser.

OK, I'm not 100% sure about how he's going to bulk up considering that Ronan is a pretty physical character but I do know that Pace has the acting skills needed to deliver meatier, statesmanly lines. You see Ronan's not just an alien brawler with a big-ass hammer, he's also what we could see as a judge in Kree society. He needs to be eloquent when he talks and I can see why Marvel Studios picked Pace for the role. For all we know this appearance of the Accuser will be all talk. One thing though, the character in the 616 Universe has faced off against both Gamorra (Zoe Saldana) and Drax the Destroyer (Batista) so it's highly unlikely that he'll be given a 'desk job'.

This confirmation might have some meat and truth to it, but until Marvel confirms this, I'm taking it with a grain of salt. We don't have to wait that long though since SDCC 2013 is around the corner, the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) might have a surprise treat for us.

Marvel Legends Brings Out the Thunderbolts for SDCC 2013

One of my favorite iterations of the Thunderbolts aside from the classic team as well as the Civil War era one was the Luke Cage led version. That team was the best looking team not to mention had a variety of skill sets. Now Hasbro is bringing that version of the THUNDERBOLTS to their MARVEL LEGENDS line for SDCC 2013.
