Historical Look at the Different X-Men Teams from 60s to the 90s

So how many different versions of team rosters did the X-Men have in the past 50 or so years that they have been in publication? Here's a quick reference to help you piece out the convoluted team history of Marvel Comics' merry mutants.

So without further delays, here's a trip back memory lane featuring the X-Men. Also do bear in mind that there are gaps in the source material and before you point it out yes, the second X-Men team consisted of Colossus, Nightcrawler, Storm, Wolverine and Thunderbird with a very traumatized Cyclops.

First Team

d173093454605adc1eeae0a443b06a15

Do we even need to discuss this???

Second Secret Team

07e39009bd7ee83b1d4cc97990441cba (1)

This is the team that 'debuted' in Ed Brubaker penned X-Men: Deadly Genesis. It's also the same team that got instantly killed in the original Krakoa. Later, Darwin and Vulcan aka Gabriel Summers were discovered to be alive. Darwin was last seen in X-Factor while Vulcan seemingly died in War of Kings.

Fourth Team

d2d1253ec4d6506aaba1edc17eb09a6f

This was around the time of the Mutant Massacre and later Magneto joins the team while Xavier leaves for space. One of the missing members here is Dazzler and Psylocke. I dunno what happened. Oh and yeah, this was the first version of AVX or Avengers vs X-Men.

Muir Island X-Men

f3f245ef5996cd39f6fe2b727fd24064

During the Muir Island saga this was the team. It's nice to see Legion and Polaris in his team.

Outback X-Men

fe4690a4b99ba04a6192fb098c9e8bbe

While the Muir Island Saga was happening, the real X-Men were recuperating and living in the Australian Outback. They got a new leash on life thanks to passing through the Siege Perilous and now being undetectable by camera and such. This was also the time that Jubilee officially joins the team.

Space Opera Jim Lee X-Men

5c39fa3e3cdf246a5868eeaef06fe5d6

OK the official team is referred to as Post-Genosha team but c'mon, it's a lot better to call them the 'Space Opera Jim Lee' team. This is my Golden, golden age of comics when X-Men had Lee plus Andy Kubert on art duties.

Blue Team

254cdffb4d9de319322fbe9748d74d14

This was one of the most famous iteration of the X-Men with Chris Claremont and Jim Lee

Gold Team

542686efa3ad313b050328c83a07b494

Whilce Portacio straight up!

Combined Blue & Gold team

73c87a4f61f3b089ce5ff2b6d6d32f53

This was the team that took out Onslaught where the Avengers and Fantastic Four failed... well OK that's not entirely right. It was the bye-bye time for some of the creative team and the X-Men slowly drifted towards a unified team system up until Operation Zero Tolerance, then back again by Uncanny X-Men # 360.

I suddenly have the inspiration to go and create the teams for the succeeding years. I might do that. Yeah, sounds like a plan. That'll start from Uncanny 360 all the way to the present.

SPOILERS: On Why Aquaman Was Absent in Justice League War

Justice League: War has already been released (a tad early too) and people are loving it. I for one love it but there seems to be a little beef with to the roster change for the League. I mean come on, Aquaman is and will always be a founding member so why is he absent from this animated flick?

There's actually a specific reason for the absence and that it also ties into whatever's coming next for DC's animated movie. Here's the description from Newsarama...

"After the devastation to Earth due to the attack by the forces of Apokolips, a shot of the ocean is shown. In the water lay swathes of dead fish and other sealife – and then waves start from the middle of the water. A vessel rises, and with what sure seems to be the helmet of Orm, Ocean Master (Aquaman’s brother). In his arms lie a dead old man. Ocean Master says, “The Surface Dwellers have killed our king. This is an act of war. And they will pay.”"

Ocean Master carrying the body of what appears to be the elderly king of Atlanti? Waitaminute...

Are we really going full Throne of Atlantis here? That'd be awesome. I liked that storyline written by Geoff Johns.

New Photos for Justice League: War

DC and Warner has released several stills from thier upcoming animated release JUSTICE LEAGUE: WAR and they certainly hypes up the release of this direct-to-DVD film.

Here's the official press release for the animated film:

“When the powerful Darkseid and his massive, relentless forces invade Earth, a group of previously unaligned super heroes – misunderstood and, in some cases, hunted by the authorities – discover the only way to fend off the attack will be to work together as a cohesive unit. Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Flash, Shazam and, in his origin story, Cyborg combine their respective talents in an all-out battle to save the planet. Based on the 2012 graphic novel, “Justice League: Origin,” by Geoff Johns & Jim Lee, Justice League: War provides a glance into the world before the Justice League was created, and offers the initial animated incarnation of DC Entertainment’s “The New 52.”

The celebrity laden cast features primetime television stars Jason O’Mara (Terra Nova, Vegas, Life on Mars) as Batman, Christopher Gorham (Covert Affairs) as Flash, Justin Kirk (Weeds) as Green Lantern, Shemar Moore (Criminal Minds) as Cyborg, Michelle Monaghan (Mission Impossible III, Gone Baby Gone) as Wonder Woman, Alan Tudyk (Suburgatory, 42, Serenity) as Superman, Sean Astin (The Lord of the Rings Trilogy) as Shazam, and Rocky Carroll (NCIS) as Silas Stone. On the villainous side, popular voice actor Steve Blum (Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox) provides the voice of Darkseid, and Bruce Thomas (Legally Blonde, Army of Darkness) gives voice to Desaad.

First Look at Darkseid for Justice League: War

Here's our very first look at the main villain for the next DC Animated feature "Justice League: War" - Darkseid.

This baddie will be voiced by Steve Blum which I hope will do justice for the character. I wonder when we'll see the cover art. Hopefully they get to churn out a cover done by artist Alex Garner.

Here's the synopsis: The world is under attack by alien species led by Darkseid. Batman and Green Lantern must gather a group of superheroes and form the Justice League to defend Earth.

Justice League: War is a follow – up to the previous DC Entertainment offering, Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox, and based on the first New 52 Justice League story arc.

Justice League: War will be released in 2014

DC COLLECTIBLES TO RELEASE JUSTICE LEAGUE BOXSET PLUS MORE GREEN ARROW

The good folks at DC Collectibles will be releasing a complete boxset of action figures from the New 52 Justice League plus our first look at the New 52 Green Arrow.

IMHO this is going to be interesting especially since there's a big demand for these figures. This of course is part of the "We Can Be Heroes" initiative that DC Comics launched a few months ago.

Another sweet addition to these boxed set is the Jim Lee inspired Green Arrow. I don't know about you guys but I certainly love this wave of figures. Now bring out guys like the Atom and Hawkman!
